When in Portland Powell's is a must see and browse. No matter what your interests are there is a book to be found which addresses your needs. Powell's café' is also a fun place to visit as conversations spring up amongst former strangers and local personalities may also be present i.e. Harold Drake World, the author of a book on... More

A book lovers dream come true... If you love the old skool medium go to Powell's!! You can get lost in all the different floors and the staff are very helpful. There's a cafe there too to restore your energy after walking around.

I went there twice--the first was a short visit but I made a list & went back 2 days later when I had more time. Learned the hard way--if you find a used book you want, get it! Great used books and new additions as well as fun games. Allow enough time if you like bookstores!

Though I now live in Atlanta, it is one of the first places I must go when I return home to visit Portland. My grandmother took me there the first month it opened in 1971 and it is better than ever! I can spend hours lingering in the aisles and looking at books on subjects I never imagined existed. Extremely... More

This place is amazing! You WILL get lost. I dare you to walk around all the floors, in all the rooms in one visit. Even better - both new and used books shelved together so you can price and choose easily and quickly!!!

Nice to see a big independent book store alive and seemingly thriving in a big city. Unique for this reason, but still just a big book store to me.

If you are any sort of bookworm this is the king of bookstores. So large that it requires a map to navigate. Has a nice little coffee shop in the store and reading before buying seems to be encouraged. They have books on all topics and the layout is tight enough to get the bookstore vibe but not at all... If you love to read, visit this bookstore!! When I lived in Portland, I would spend an hour here almost every Saturday because there was so many interesting books! I went back years later and it hasnt really changed.

My husband and I love this place. We could spend an entire day browsing through the floors full of books. Best bookstore I've ever been in. Staff is helpful while giving you space to browse.

If I could, I would set up residence in Powell's endless stacks. Something new to discover in every adjoining room and down every aisle. Can't wait to be there again.
