I make it point to visit Powell's whenever I'm fortunate enough to be in Portland. I could happily spend all day browsing around this store. Got some great books about hiking in Oregon and one of the employees, (I unfortunately didn't get his name), was super helpful with book suggestions and his own personal take on some hiking trails. Great... More

If you're in Portland and you enjoy books, this is a MUST-Stop. Hours disappear when you're in Powells, so plan to go when you don't need to be anywhere else.

I'm still in awe over my visit to Powell's! Imagine a bookstore with literally at least one of every title by every author imaginable! If all bookstores were like Powell's, even sellers like Amazon would have a run for their money! At Powell's, I felt like I was in one of the best libraries in the world, but all its... More

I could hear the angels singing as I walked into what is surely the best book store I have ever visited. We only spent about 40 minutes but I wish we had time for much longer. Comprehensive sections. I particularly enjoyed exploring the huge cookbook section and the science fiction/fantasy and crime thriller sections, as well as the kids sections.... More

Introduced to this place by some friends who live in the area. Well, if you like books, this is nirvana times heaven. It would take forever to get through this place, but I would love to try. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait to go again.

It is only the second largest bookstore in the US...you could easily get lost on the multiple floors of books. Great children's book section as well.

They don't have everything but almost. I went in seeking 5 special books. They only had one and it was almost priced double Amazon. Great info stations to point the customer in the right direction and if you don't find it they help you find it. Hour till 11pm daily. Know what you want when you walk in or be... More

amazing. Even if you don't want to carry books back with you on your journey, it is worth it to visit and revel in the variety and abundance of books, books, books. Love the interesting displays and staff picks.

This rambling bookstore (with a couple of coffee shops thrown in) is a great cross section of the city. I personally enjoy shopping for a hard-to-find book in a physical store and this one can usually deliver. Very helpful employees that want to help and will call someone else to get a question answered. The layout is quirkly...this is Portland.
