We walked the pearl district and ate this evening with no problems at all from homeless. It is Sunday evening so all the shops were closed but lots of restaurants were open. Portland has lots of homeless but we actually saw fewer in this district...More

Loved Rogue Brewary, Descheutes and the book store. Easy walk for the family from the hotel. Lots to see between this area and the hotel.

I will say this, whatever is in the water there, people do roam thru the Pearl District. However, it's kinda turned into a high-end outdoor mall and some of the restaurant pricing (I'm sure it's due to their rents) is getting breath-taking. But if you...More

This is not on my forever, "must do list," but, we enjoyed exploring the area known as the Peal District. It's a bit outside of the immediate downtown area and on most days is walkable. But, when we were there there were record setting heats...More

Shopping and eating. This is a wonderful newer area of Portland that is very popular with local people. No need for a car, just walk around and find what you are looking for.

Nice shops and places to eat. Lots of homeless people and we say 3 arrests while walking at night. If you have kids do during the day.

I grew up here. Loved it. Came back a couple times for quickie business trips. Now as an adult, take my advice and stay away. Portland Oregon makes you appreciate the superior civility and cleanliness of our second home in NYC. On a beautiful afternoon...More

It is a very slow place. Restaurants are good and probably this place maybe a little exciting during weekends but on weekday not a very fun place.

The Pearl District is 180 degrees different from 10 or 15 years ago. This former blue collar/industrial/commercial neighborhood was transformed by entrepreneurs and city planners to dozens of blocks of upscale condos/apartments, high concept chain stores, trendy restaurants, hipster coffee hangouts and the like. It's...More

Old and new sit side by side in the Pearl District. Condo development in the past 15 years has obviously been extensive. In some areas there are almost no old commercial buildings left, while in others there's plenty of clever adaptive reuse. Very good and...More

Sorry I was in Europe and didn't check. We took the train right from the airport and it was easy and gets you right to town in about 40 minutes.

The Zoo! Awesome! If you like great Pinot Noir and have a car, the Willamette valley has great wine. The Pearl for shopping/eating great food carts ( not your traditional gut truck!!)
