We were staying across the river at a convention center area hotel. I decided to walk across the bridge and explore the Old Town, since I had read a bit about it (but not enough!). I checked out the Chinatown and nothing much was happening....More

I came here to taste some of the good local Portland beers and was happily surprised by the excellent pizza! Very friendly staff with good suggestions on the beers; the pizza takes 35 minutes (which is announced) but totally worth the wait - just excellent....More

I didn't do my research on "Old Town" (which I think is also Chinatown?) prior to visiting Portland, and wandered there on a Saturday mid-day. There were homeless people everywhere, and my group of 2 were the only tourists on the street. Homeless doesn't bother...More

My husband and I join the number of people who have mentioned the terrible problem of vagrants in downtown Portland in their reviews. We were in the process of parking our car. We had intentions of walking around to see some of the more interesting...More

Hillsboro is growing...fast! But, the old downtown area has been thoughtfully kept as a functioning, viable, and welcoming breath of fresh air. The individual store fronts contain varied businesses that seem to be thriving. Strolling the area, its green spaces, public fountain and using the...More

Every city has problem areas, and Portland has this. Drug addicts, alcoholics and those who have given up on life (or life has given up on them) abound. You feel unsafe walking in broad daylight, so goodness knows what it's like after dark. The city...More

Didn't feel safe enough to park and walk to Voodoo Donuts, Powell Bookstore, etc. because of homeless sleeping on sidewalks around shops.
