Gilbert House Children's Museum (formerly known as A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village) is a private nonprofit children's museum connected to downtown Salem's Riverfront Park. Founded in 1989, Gilbert House provides innovative and stimulating educational experiences which spark children's natural curiosity. The Museum's mission is to "inspire children to learn through creative play." This is accomplished through fun and challenging exhibits, camps, birthday parties, membership opportunities and outreach programs in the sciences, arts, and humanities. The Museum is composed of three historic houses; the Rockenfield House, Gilbert House and Parrish House.

Took grandchildren for a day of fun and learning. Great exhibits and hands on for kids. Lovely picnic tables to eat your lunch that you can bring with you.

The Gilbert House was once occupied by A.C. Gilbert who created, among other things, the American Flyer electric train and the Erector Set. Lots of hands on activities for kids of all ages. A short walk from Riverfront Park and the Carousel.

This is such a great place for everyone! My youngest of 2 had a blast, my 10 year old actually admitted to it being "cool" and I myself had so much fun with the different rooms and the big treehouse outside!

I had been to the museum once before and fondly remembered the bubble exhibit. Going back I was astonished how little there is exhibit-wise now. One room had a theme of 'use blankets to make a fort'. I was stunned that someone would actually consider...More
