There’s no better place! The local elevation, pitch dark surrounding and crystal clear air make it perfect for star gazing. You won’t be lining up for one telescope. The Oregon Observatory is the largest astronomical viewing facility in the United States. Feast your eyes on far away galaxies. Recognize the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter. Witness a meteor shower. Get a glimpse of globular clusters, nebula and deep space binary stars.

We did not find time to visit during the day, too busy enjoying activities/ scenery. Brought the kids for the evening viewing, we were able to use the telescopes, introduction to astronomy, speakers giving you the mythology and the stories that go along with each one, wonderful viewing of constellations!! Dress warm for night viewing, and sometime need mosquito repellent... More

This is so neat for anyone! We cannot wait for 2017 to view the eclipse here! I was surprised that this level of scientific equipment was available at a resort ~ but Sunriver amazing in almost every way. I like doing a bit of education with my daughter while on vacations, and the observatory really peaked her interest in space!

You want to come early (1/2 hour) for parking and to get in line. We had a crowd of over a 100 and we were all able to see through all the telescopes. The volunteers who set up the telescopes were friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The telescopes ranged from 8 inches to 30. At the end they have a laser... More

We went to the evening viewing. All the volunteers & staff were friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. Plan on staying late as there are different activities at different times.

This was the second time that we had visited the observatory as we also went last year. If you enjoy looking at the heavens and would like to learn more about them, this is for you. Hint, don't touch the eyepiece or the telescope when looking through one of them. Even light contact often moves the telescope enough to throw... More

We went during the day as it doesn't cost anything to view the sun from the telescopes they have up. We had 2 small kids so the nighttime viewing wasn't an option. Highly informative and glad we went

My wife and I were staying at the Sunriver Resort and decided to go to the observatories evening presentation from 9pm-11pm. We were at first skeptical because we didn't bring any warm clothes, it was August in the high desert, but our visit to the observatory became the highlight of our trip to Sunriver. Make sure you get there at... More
