I was traveling on the American Empress and had a free afternoon. The Landmark wasn't on the Hop-on Hop-off tours, but we drove by it and the local historian mentioned the rooster on the steeple. I decided to walk to the site to check it out, basically to find out about the rooster. It is beautiful inside and the docent was great. I was her only visitor at the time and she spent much time with me answering questions and discussing preservation. I would suggest anyone spend an hour in this gem.

Well preserved over 100-year-old Catholic Church, now a landmark monument, not an active church. A docent was present to give us lots of useful information.

While driving through The Dalles, we noticed the spire of the church. Fortunately, it was open and a volunteer was delighted to show us details of this historic building. There are four splendid stained glass window panels that were featured in National Geographic, beautiful Italian marble, a pressed tin ceiling, original pews and a statue of the Madonna that was carved from the keel of a sailing ship that sank near San Francisco in the 1850s. Stop to look at the rooster weathervane atop the spire. Old St. Peter's is no longer used for services but concerts and special programs are held there occasionally. Admission and parking are free. Donations are apprecialed.

It's worth stopping in for a look. Very small, so you probably won't be spending much time here. Nice bit of local history.

This is now an old church that is used for community events. The decor is original and beautiful for a once small town Catholic Church. Worth a peek.

Close call in 1971 when the church managed to tear down the convent and school but the local folks saved this amazing building. It’s a must stop and see. Give them a donation, these old buildings require cash and it’s still a struggle to keep it standing.

My daughter was married in this landmark church in an evening wedding service & it was beautiful inside with all the stained glass windows & marble alters. Well worth a visit if coming to The Dalles, Oregon. I look at that church everyday from my home & at night it is all lit up, beautiful.

We were greeted by docent she was so pleasant and showed us the building pointing out neat features and telling us about it. The building is small it can be seen in less than 15 minutes we took about 30 minutes as we really looked it over. The tours are 11am-3pm Tuesday-Friday 1pm-3 on weekends closed during the month of January. If you are in the Dalles there is no reason not to drop in to the beautiful old church

We walked by here while exploring the sights in The Dalles, and it was worth the stop. Very visually attractive. No longer is a functioning church. Nice elderly lady told us the background, and showed us the holy water stoups that are in the small rear antechamber.

We didn't arrive there when the church was open, so we didn't get a chance to see the insides. The outsides were quite nice. There was even a metal rooster on the top of the church. There was a parking lot right across the street, so the parking was good.
