Built in the 1930's under the Works Progress Administration by local artisans, the lodge features local stone, wood, and hand crafted creations. The furniture, the drapes, the hand carved bannisters, the artwork, etc. were all created on site by locals. The central fireplace in the gathering...More

This is a MUST-SEE attraction on the slopes of beautiful Mount Hood. It is a testament to the many unemployed men and women who used their incredible talents to create a world-class lodge that can be enjoyed by everyone for FREE! It was built in...More

The hotel in Yellowstone at Old Faithful is a wonder if intricate "found wood" balconies, open space, nice rooms, and more. Timberline Lodge however, is right in there with the best of them. The massive timbers and stonework fireplaces, hand carved piecs all around, in-your-face...More

Driving up Mt. Hood road to Timberline Ski Area doesn't seem like the thing to do when there's no snow, but just seeing Timberline Lodge is well worth the trip. This hand-hewn timber ski lodge contains an enormous stone fireplace towering several levels high. Hand-crafted...More

I was traveling the Oregon Scenic Byway. Decided to take a 10 minute detour up to the Timberline Lodge. It's a very nice hotel (and used for some of the exterior shots of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining). I didn't stay here, but I was able...More

To get a full understanding of the historical overview of Timberland Lodge you must schedule a tour (held twice a day) with one of the rangers. We were fortunate to have Ramsey as our guide who did an outstanding job in explaining the history of...More

We went inside to visit this beautiful building that was built by the WPA during the 1930's. The craftsmanship was fantastic. The building is worth the visit alone. All I can say is visit these National Forests and Parks and support them. They are our...More

My husband and I stayed at Timberline a year ago, in 2016. It was probably our third stay. We love all the architecture and workmanship that make up the lodges history. We always stay in the old rooms with the baths down the hall. You...More

Make no mistake about Mt. Hood, it is a "Climb" no "hike". I have climbed it once, at age 50, but only after a number of rigorous hikes first. Guides will require a 1/2 day training session in advance to build skills, like... More

Timberline Mountain Guides is located on site at the ski lodge. I have made the summit numerous times with their mountain guides. I cannot recommend them enough.
