For my birthday, my wife took me for a drive to Cape Perpetua where we spent the day exploring, enjoying each other's company, and taking beautiful photo after beautiful photo. Start at the visitor's center and get a handle on the tide. It dictates access (and safety) for exploring the tide pools and Cook's Chasm (Thor's Well). There are a... More

Cape Perpetua is one of those places that words cannot adequately describe. It has to be experienced first-hand to really appreciate it. For example, the Alsea tribe middens, in this case mounds of mussel shells, are a reminder of their presence over the millennia in this place. The awesome power of the ocean as it cuts into the rocky headlands... More

We were surprised to find the visitors center (run by the Siuslaw National Forest) open on a winter Sunday afternoon. We went in and checked out the displays. Staff was helpful and friendly. The restrooms were clean and warm. Then we walked up to the Big Tree (1 mile, easy), and drove up to the top of Cape Perpetua to... More

The last time we came here, it was low tide, which was still very cool to see and walk around the tide pools, but this visit it was high tide and sunset. It was like being at a spectacular show brought to us by God! The sun came out for the 1st time in 2 days right as we walked... More

This is a great place to stop when traveling through. We had three dogs and a baby. It was down pouring so we went straight to the main sights- devils churn, spouting horn and thors well. The hike wasn't too far for those sights. There are other trails for those looking for some hiking adventures. The tide was low so... More

Awesome coastline and trails. Too beautiful for words. Don't miss the thundering ocean at Devil's Churn.

We were here during winter, but still amazing even in the gray, damp weather. Also great for photo's!

Don't just drive by! Spend 15 minutes or all weekend but don't just drive by again. Totally worthy of your time.

The best hike from the visitors center is the St. Perpetua trail. It is a short 1.2 miles up a steep trail, gaining 1000 feet elevation, to AMAZING panoramic views of the coast. It's easier than it sounds...just do it!

This is one of the most beautiful beach areas I have seen in Oregon. Make sure to stop in the visitor's center, the park rangers are very informative and friendly.
