I spent past of my summer vacation in my nearby home town and was excited to finally attend the society after a 30+ year hiatus. My initial feeling was excitement as there were many books to read and search for clues. However, as soon as I took out a piece of paper to write some notes, the on-duty librarian(?) said... More

Having finally broken down a brick wall for one branch of my family history, I visited the Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society as an introduction to county resources. The volunteers were very helpful, suggesting files, books, and topics that would aid in my research. Parking in the area is metered, and one of the volunteers helped me with remembering... More

I mean LOVE. Like almost slightly uncomfortable love. They usually put on an event or two every year that has something to do with local lore. Their level of knowledge is well beyond that of an average hobbyist.

Love places manned by the elders - they actually remember this stuff and often have wonderful stories to add to the history. When you can keep little kids interested, that's saying something!
