Come here for the PX and the commisary. Great prices. Have to have a military ID to get on base. Small meaningful cemetery on base.

The Barracks tells stories of our history dating back to the Revolutionary War timeframe to present. Having been the site of several agencies and events there is something of interest for all. The Civil War, Whiskey Rebellion, Indian School, Artillery School and currently home to the US Army War College. Enjoy a beautiful walk along the river and the historical... More

The Carlisle Barracks isn't particularly oriented toward tourism, so it's unfair to ask much of the military folks who run the place. It was once the Carlisle Indian School, and is now a war college, still a working facility. You must fill out some forms and be computer-checked for security clearance, and there are certain areas within the compound that... More

We really enjoyed our visit here. Although, my parents that were driving in a separate car, entered in a wrong spot and had security stop them. The correct way is to go to the Visitor's center first. This was not hard for us to find as we simply followed the blue signs from the time we got off of the... More

Attended the War College here years ago and really enjoyed this beautifully maintained Campus and Garrison. Besides being the second oldest military installation it was here that Jim Thorpe, a Native American Indian, lived, was schooled and went on to be a great athlete winning many Olympic Gold Medals. History here is bountiful. The Garrison is home to many of... More

Being a recent participant of the Spring Seminar, I find the Army War College to being the cornerstone of leadership and graduate education for our Nation's Future. The quality of students, faculty and Leadership that abounds at this institution is second to none. The art collection is outstanding, the FREE museum is informative and the Library(s) are outstanding. The architecture... More

This is the home of the US Army War College. If you do not have a current military ID card, it will likely be difficult to enter. That said, it is a great

Throughout our trip to Pennsylvania we made a required stop to recognize and remember a historical fact impregnated with pain. A fact has been arduous to accept to many people, Indigenous people assimilation. It was a regular day on the military base when we pulled our car in front of the guard point. The guard took our ID's and registered... More
