The National Watch and Clock Museum was officially opened to the public in 1977 with fewer than 1,000 items. Since that time, the collection has increased to over 12,000 items and the museum has undergone several expansion projects. The latest expansion opened in October 1999 and featured an entirely new and redesigned exhibit space, as well as a new two-story addition. Today, the museum is recognized as the largest and most comprehensive horological collection in North America. The National Watch & Clock Museum is conveniently located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, less than two hours from Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, and Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre.

Great history here! A complete collection of so many different clocks and watches, beautifully displayed, many working, with great explanations. Laid out historically so it's so easy to see the development of timepieces. Beautiful things. Go!

If you have any interest at all in clocks and watches, this is a great place to visit. I found myself wondering how many clocks and watches one one can bear looking at in a single day but that's just me. The displays were attractive informative although some of the signs were a little difficult to read. I really enjoyed... More

Traces clocks and watches from the beginning of "time." Very interesting exhibits, put together in an appealing fashion. I thought this was going to be boring, but it was truly a fascinating place where we could have spent more time there if he had the "time."

If you want to know more about the history of time and how we measure it, this is the museum for you. This is an amazing collection that chronicles how we measure time from sundials and water clocks to today's computerized time keepers. The museum does an excellent job explaining how time is measured and how clocks work. The collection... More

For years I had wanted to go to the National Watch and Clock Museum... I knew it was there and was just curious, I guess; not that I'm a watch freak or anything. One free day my husband and I and a son who lives in nearby Lancaster decided- what the heck, let's check it out - and we were... More

Stopped here on a Saturday in July with my boys ages 11 and 12. Thought the museum was well laid out and enjoyed the many clock/time keeping displays. My kids liked the water clock! We especially enjoyed the Engle Clock presentation, very cool. My kids thought they were going to be bored but told me afterwards they were only half... More
