Let me start by saying that I am NOT a museum lover. Every time my husband drove past the PA Lumber Museum, I breathed a sigh of relief. Today, I was not so lucky. He turned in the entrance. Imagine my surprise to see that it is a beautiful place and very well done. There are several outside exhibits including... More

This is an indoor and outdoor museum. It is open year round Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It is closed on some Federal holidays, so go to the site (just type in Pennsylvania Lumber Museum) for all the information and ongoing events. If you've been there in the past, go back; it's been renovated wonderfully and... More

We were visiting Colter State Park and stopped in here. The visit was well worth the time. We learned a lot about logging in Pa history. The museum is new and the exhibits are well done. Outdoors there are many lumbering buildings that have been moved to the site. This is really a great stop.

Wow, who would have thought a lumber museum could be this interesting and enjoyable! First there is a short(and yes, interesting ) video of the lumber industry in PA. Also in the main building is a gift shop(with snacks), restrooms etc. This is one of the most well done museum displays I have seen. Outside is a series of reconstructed... More

Be sure to take time to watch the very educational film. And there are lots of photographs and exhibits in the museum as well as a gift shop. Also enjoyed the outdoor displays such as saw mill, holding pond, engine and train cars, etc.

Another one of those places I should have visited a long time ago. Can actually see how the lumber industry worked years ago. They display and explain how it was done. If ever in the area, don't miss it!

We were looking forward to visiting this museum, but were disappointed in the total visit. We thought the $8 to get in, was steep for the experience. The movie and the exhibits in the visitor's center were informative, but traveling around to the outdoor exhibits were not so great. First of all, the kitchen and bunk house building were not... My husband is a cabinet maker, and a friend recommended this museum almost as a little joke (you get the idea). We went in almost on a whim, and boy were we surprised! We spent two hours there! So very informative, all kinds of "happenings" we didn't know about in Pennsylvania's past. The hemlock/leather tanning story was particularly interesting to... More

Good place to learn about Pennsylvania's history. Very enjoyable experience. Would recommend that you add it to the list of things to do when you are in the area.
