The outside of the bulding makes it aeem a bit small and like it wont be to big inside, but then comes the suprise when you enter. What do you see? An expansive collection of used books! The books are divided into categories and each one is clearly marked, room after room. You can also get something to drink or... More

Midtown is a huge space, old building turned into an enormous bookstore. It is divided into little rooms, some of which are very poorly lit, with tight aisles, making it difficult to see what is on the floor to ceiling shelves. The maps and sign-posting is not really well done or helpful either. I had to ask for help from... More

The Midtown Scholar Bookstore is one of Harrisburg's few saving graces. It doesn't look terribly spectacular from the outside, but inside you'll find a plethora of books of all kinds. Great place to get lost amongst the many titles (both new and old). And make sure you go into the basement area. It really seems like their selection is endless.... More

Warning...if you decide to experience this amazing bookstore, plan to spend a lot of time here. There are so many new and used books to choose from, expect to be somewhat overwhelmed...but in a good way! Grab a coffee from the cafe, pull out a few choice books, and relax in one of their many comfortable reading areas. This is... More

You don't often go out of your way to go to a bookstore, but it's been so long since we've been to one, my wife and I drove a half-hour to Harrisburg just to see this store. This is unlike any bookstore you've seen before. Huge, yet at the same time intimately arranged, Midtown Scholar contains about 250,000 books with... More

Nothing much to look at from the outside. In fact, we almost kept driving. Glad, however, that we decided to park and check it out. This bookstore is a must-visit for any book-lover! It has all types of books, as well as an amazing aesthetic. The store has three levels and several rooms full of books that you might not... More

I have been to this bookstore twice and could visit 100 times and never see everything there is to see there. Had a great time relaxing with a piece of pie, a chai tea, and a enjoy a treasure hunt through a collection of used and rare books. The basement is amazing with a special section of art prints. Awesome... More

Love the 1$ paperbacks on the sidewalk. The coffee shop is very nice with friendly staff and yummy treats. Not cheap, but not wildly expensive either. The basement is crazy fun to explore. I swear I thought I should find a minotaur somewhere in there. With all these wonderful books, why is the sci-fi section so tiny?

An independent bookstore is hard to find these days, and this one has all kinds of genres to choose from in an interesting and beautiful space. The books are priced reasonably, and I understand the space can be used for events as well. There is also a cafe and lots of people were sitting around reading and/or sipping on coffee... More
