Wildwood Park is located in the rolling hills of central Pennsylvania on the outskirts of downtown Harrisburg. Its 229 acres are a haven for countless species of flora and fauna centered around the 90 acre freshwater wetland. A popular three-mile loop trail encircles the park with side trails and boardwalks for a total of six miles of trails. Its attractive Olewine Nature Center features engaging exhibits on environmental education. Established in 1901, during the City Beautiful Movement, Wildwood was part of a nationwide effort to improve urban life. In 1976, the Dauphin County Commissioners assumed ownership of the property. Now managed by Dauphin County Parks and Recreation Department, Wildwood Park is one of Pennsylvania’s premier centers for environmental studies, educational opportunities and outdoor recreation. It is a cherished retreat for nature lovers, bird watchers and exercise enthusiasts.

A little nice nature preserve in the middle of the suburbs

A nice nature preserve. Walking/biking trail is about 3 miles long around the park. A couple of nice boardwalks take you out into the wetlands. A very nice little nature center.

We enjoy walking the 3 mile loop often with our daughter in her her stroller. There is a fine gravel portion of the trail but it's fine for strollers. The nature center has a bird viewing area and a good sized area for kids to learn and explore. The park is near a high way so some areas have lots... More

Whether one goes in winter to hike or snowshoe, in spring to admire the blossoming, in summer to hear and see birds of every species, or in autumn, when the foliage is at its most splendid, s/he will not be disappointed. The lake is alive in any season. Take a friend and a dog, if one is available, your camera,... More

Wildwood Park has an amazingly diverse bird population. It is worth visiting in every season. There are year round activities; summer camps for children, bird walks, lecture series. Something for everyone.

Wildwood Parkview a great place to walk the trails around the large Lake. We take our dogs and meet many people along the trails. There is also a Nature Center where we take the grandkids. They love learning about the animals, birds and reptiles in and around the lake. Great family day!

A friend and I hike the 3 mile loop around Wildwood Lake numerous times a year. It is a nice hike any season of the year. It is also a good place for a bike ride or for dog walking. The environmental center has items of interest to both children and adults. There is a spot inside to sit and... More

For a number of years I have been visiting Wildwood Park in Harrisburg, which is situated behind Hacc College. I love walking the number of trails that have been created for peoples' access; one path which runs along the lake. The complete trail is 3.1 miles and can be walked fully, within an hour and fifteen minutes. It's really a... More

So, you want to see some pretty scenery while exercising? This is a great place for this and it's free! Folks walk, run, ride their bikes, walk their dogs, take pictures...I believe one "lap" is about 3 miles. There is one big hill, so you can definitely work up a sweat. I am perhaps a bit more cautious than most,... More
