If you love books and architecture, this place is for you! Any resident of PA can get a State Library card, and they have an amazing collection by, for, and about Pennsylvania! The building has stunning Art Deco elements and is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 - 5:00 and the second Saturday of the month! Stop in to share... More

This is a beautiful place and a great resource for Pennsylvania residents. However, their hours are limited and I think they are open only one Saturday a month, so check before you go.

Nice to have quality library like this in our state capital! And it attached to the gorgeous "Forum" indoor performance space which is wide and sprawling with the havens painted on the ceiling.

This was interesting to see. A library in one of those older marble buildings. The collection is extensive, and there are a number of nooks and crannies to sit in and peruse a book.

Love going to this place. Have researched ancestors and military interests there on numerous occasions, always illuminating. This as so many places in Harrisburg is a wonderful resource but limited in its enjoyment but the parking difficulty at times

State budget cuts have taken their toll on the Pennsylvania State Library. It is no longer open on any evening, nor on Saturdays, and has very limited hours during the work week. It has a fantastic collection of rsearch materials, but they are difficult to use when the library is open so few hours.

The building is thoughtfully decorated in a manner reminiscent of the height of the Art Deco movement in the early twentieth century. There are marble entryways and gilded lighting fixtures that resemble sculpture rather than electrical devices. The floor resembles a stone parquet-like triangle design. Around the corners, on the ceilings and on the walls are raised reliefs with figures... More

The very helpful and knowledgeable staff here will guide around the library's many treasures. Especially notable is their statewide newspaper collection and the Genealogy and family history collections. Don't forget to look up to view the decorative ceiling!
