Harrisburg is a nice city. Plenty of old buildings. It is right on the river which is very scenic. Plenty of hotels, restaurant, and bars all of high quality. After dark, the downtown area can get sketchy.

We go often to Harrisburg. Since the 70's. We stayed at the Downtown Hilton. But mainly at the Radisson in camp hill. Everything is nearby. A beautiful convention hall inside. Lots of good restaurants nearby too. Easy to get to. At the Radisson the site...More
dirty and nothing to do. not what the capital of a city should look. like. it would be nice if the parking was better too.
Downtown is really up and coming with many restaurants. But there are definitely bad neighborhoods so you have to be careful.
A good stroll in a capital that is not overwhelming. Clean, and with the State Park never far away. I'd call it a friendly place to visit. Rather the opposite of New York

Loved the architecture and the parks along the river. We were looking for a nice, walkable experience, but ended up in some apparently sketchy areas. Sadly, no shortage of folks down on their luck.
Lots to do in downtown Harrisburg. Restaurants everywhere on 2nd st. and other locations. Cool place to stay with easy access to various activities.
