I had walked past the Merchant's House on many occasions thinking 'I must go and look at that sometime' so when I finally went round, I couldn't believe that I had waited so long! A very knowledgeable guide took me round by myself so I had a personal tour, and it was absolutely fascinating. I was particularly taken by the... More

A delightful house described entertainingly by our guide Antony Cohen. We hovered a bit as the entrance fee seemed a bit steep for an unplanned visit but we were glad we decided to visit. The tour was very interesting and as there was only 4 in our group it was interactive. Although it was historical the tour wasn't 'precious' and... More

We just popped in to Marlborough after visiting friends and had some time to kill, it was after the market had finished and there was not much time before closing so was a bit of a rush. The outside although nice belies the fantastic interior of this marvellous glimpse back into history and imagine yourself transported back in time. It's... More

I don't know how many times I have passed through Marlborough without realising this hidden gem was here. On the off chance, I phoned to see if myself and my husband could visit out of season and were delighted to be given the thumbs up, as a guide would be available. Our guide for the visit, Margaret, was enthusiastic and... More

It's out of season at the moment but rang in the morning to see if I could get a tour for 1 or join a group tour as per website suggestion - and by 11 am a volunteer guide had been found and I was touring around the Merchant's House! Main 'tourist' activity in town - so I'd definitely suggest... More

This is a stunning House in the Market Town of Marlborough. Marlborough is delightful with its long open market place with boutique shops. It retains a distinct feel and even Pepys came to stay. The Merchant House doubles as both a shop ( the profits of which help keep the House going) and an icon. This is a building for... More

I know that when we visited the 'house tours' were out of season but the shop (from which all profits got to continual restoration of the house) was beautiful. Perfect for Christmas gifts and decorations. Upstairs the front room which is normally a period living room was full of Christmas magic! We're coming back April to October to go on... More
