Several serch engines and even the ELR website states that the museum is closed WED THU FRI. This is a mistake, it is indeed open on these days (10am to 4pm) and will be until the end of December!

We have been to this museum on numerous occasions.Due to covid you follow a clockwise route.Starting in the upper part of the museum. With a timeline of transport history in Bury.A large collection of Greater Manchester train platform signs.Various old buses, tractors, traction engines, old cars,a old post office van and post box and a old lorry along with a old tram, wagons, some steam engines along with old bicycles along with other exhibits. A good video to watch ,along with children's interactive sections and dressing up sections. And a model railway.Sometimes the traction engines are running.Has accessible toilets and lifts.Run by a great friendly team of volunteers. Well worth a visit.

Small road and rail transport museum next to East Lancashire Railway, maned by enthusiastic volunteers. Well presented and COVID safe. A very good way to pass a hour off two.

An unexpected bonus

We were visiting the East Lancashire Railway and did not know about this museum before we went. What a pleasant discovery! The museum is easy to find from the nearby station and we had a very interesting time walking around the exhibits. Well worth a visit if you are interested in buses, trucks and trams.

We visited on the day we went to the East Lancashire Railway while we were waiting for our time for the Flying Scotsman event. This is a lovely little place with all sorts of vehicles. They have a one way system at the moment due to covid which allows you to be separated from people. It was a good hour or so to wander round. The volunteers at the door were great fun and so was the museum.

My parents & I visited the East Lancashire Railway for the first time last Friday & our travel tickets entitled us to free entry to this great attraction too.

This place has so much to see, lots of interesting history of the railway itself plus all the models & full size vehicles which you can admire too.

I especially enjoyed seeing the Dennis F12 fire engine, the tractors & traction engines & steam roller.

The staff & volunteers we met that day were very friendly & helpful too.

A truly interesting & highly recommended museum to visit if you're ever in the area.

Thank you very much.

Opposite the East Lancs station and free to enter so a great way to spend time between trains. A good collection of buses and vans with a few other large vehicles plus many smaller artefacts. Very welcoming volunteers on duty. Well worth a visit.
