The staircase house is the most ancient house in Stockport; it has been converted into a small museum. Through the various rooms one learns about the life style of the people who lived in the house in the past four hundreds years. It is very well organised with an audio system to provide information and plenty of activities to keep... More

The "oldest townhouse in Stockport" has been carefully renovated and made safe, with excellent lift and stairs, but retains a lot of the old material as it was, with "wonky" floors and patched walls. You get to experience the atmosphere of the place and examine the exhibits. There are puzzles...why do the dining room doors both go into bedrooms? why... More

For an afternoon of free fun with little ones you can't go wrong with Staircase Museum. A whole floor of family dedicated space with so many different toys and activities, we easily spent an hour and a half there and could have stayed longer. Colouring, puppets, dressing up, play shop, shadow wall, displays of the natural world, ancient Egypt and... More

We loved our time here, The house is over 500 years old and has been lovingly restored. Best of all is that you are encouraged to touch many of the exhibits - so you get a very real feel what it would have been like to stand in a kitchen from the 1650's and a dining room from the 18th... More

Me and my little girl are regular visitors here. Little one loves the fact that you can touch the objects and listen to the audio. She really enjoyed the acorn hunt. Staff are all fantastic and helpful.

This is a museum with a difference and would suit all ages. One can wander around at one's own pace, experiencing life in a town house through different periods.

We've lived in Stockport but never knew of this delightful hidden gem. If it were more widely known or in a more visited location I believe the admission would be incrementally higher. At £4.50 for an adult and less for children or concessions it's a snip. I wish I'd known about it years ago. The staff are extremely helpful and... More

Entrance costs £4.75 for adults. They give an audio guide full of information. You can touch almost everything and you can try on clothes. It's so much fun and it is very informative about the life style of people in 17th century. I had a great time with friends. It's great for children
