I live down the road and took my daughter's new boyfriend out on a mountain bike tour. Ashe is 30 years younger than me I was glad to stop here for a break. I forgot the reaction I had when I first went. He was openly surprised and said it was a good start to learning more about the history... More

This visit vastly outweighed expectations. When there is a discretionary entrance fee (we paid!) can an attraction be that good? Yes - it can! Everything written regarding awesome the awesome acoustics of this man made auditorium are true. We visited on a Sunday morning in damp Feb. and had the place to ourselves to take some unique photos and enjoy... More

Unique place to visit, was very quiet. Visitors centre was closed when we went so didn't get to learn much about the history. Would recommend if you are going nearby and don't mind a stop for half hour to check it out.

Gwennap pit is signed well, but needs some perseverance to actually get there in what can seem a maze of small narrow lanes. Limited opening of the chapel next to the pit but pit is always open- as a monument to the Cornish mining industry. and the place of Methodism in that culture. This is an iconic place for Cornwall,... More

Had been told so much about this place by my late sister and wasn't disappointed the place is very peaceful and steeped in history there is a lovely little visitor centre with a chapel and plenty of photographs ❤️plus a very informative staff member who told us lots. If you walk round and down every layer of the pit from... More

We found the Pit quite easily and parked at the kerbside. Walking up the steps to the old chapel and visitor centre, there is no awareness of the Pit itself. We went into the charming little chapel and had a nice chat with the volunteer lady at the small visitor centre. She just happened to be a Methodist minister and... More

I miss this place, It used to be clean and it was a lovely place to spend time with friends and go for dog walks. Now there is a lot of rubbish and dog poo. Havent been there in a while.

We visited two adults two children 8 and 12. This is a free site and dogs are allowed kept on leads. There is not a great deal to do here worth visiting all the same. Information around the area and also in the cafe area when open (can call to check) we walked the mile - all the way around... More

Surprisingly close to Redruth yet hidden away amongst some narrow country lanes, this is a fascinating place. Originally caused by mining subsidence, then adapted to become a 1500-seater arena, the 'pit' has historic associations with early Methodism. But the stone displays at the entrance need some TLC, or at least a coat of paint, as they let the area down... More

I found this place as a child and did not know of it's importance then. Coming back 40 years later glad to see it is now a world heritage site. Nice new visitor centre as well. For a passing visit on a dry day, allow an hour.
