Very interesting place to visit while in Jim Thorpe. Had no idea how the town received its name, and the articles and history was very enlightening.

Not crazy about this excursion. We watched a 12 min DVD on on how this town was renamed Jim Thorpe. Several pics of Jim Thorpe himself. Some history on mining...I just wish it had more to offer.

For the coal-crackers tourist path, this is one spot to put on the list. If you want an idea for what Mauch Chunk is all about, I suggest checking this place out.

It was easy to see the passion for preservation and history in the museum staff and exhibits. There is great pride in sharing this history.

It's only $5 and it's chock full of memorabilia. The short video is a great overview of the area and a nice way to start a trip to Jim Thorpe. It smells like your great grandma's attic and I'm not sure it'd be good for...More

Small friendly old fashioned museum. Docents eager to save Mauch Chunk/Jim Thorpe history which really enhanced our visit. A 20 minute video really sinks in the major details. A wise idea firstling upon arriving.

This is a nice non guided tour with a video explaining a lot of the history of the town. It's very inexpensive and the staff were more than helpful.

small museum but informative town info, enjoyed it, don't think kids would enjoy it though unless they are older and into learning about history
