Buchanan's Birthplace State Park is tiny, only 18 acres but offers a quiet place for a picnic. Some historical markers as well as a monument to Pennsylvania's only president, so far. A very misunderstood and under appreciated man. The cabin in which he was born stands several miles away on the campus of the Mercersburg Academy.

The perfect place to learn about our 15th President. My family found this little park charming and informative. Take a lunch or dinner and enjoy the many picnic tables and the near by stream.

The birth place cabin is NOT at the birthplace. There is only a monument marker there. The cabin has been moved to the academy in the town near by. This really wasn't worth the drive to.

We also enjoyed Buchanan's Birthplace State Park and agree with all of the other reviews. The log cabin pictured is the birth location of President Buchanan and was located in the park where the pyramid now stands. The pyramid was dedicated by President Buchanan's niece. 4.2 miles to the southeast in Mercersburg is the location where President Buchanan grew up.... More

I share the last name of the president. And I thought it would be nice to visit this memorial site. It is a lovely little park and the view on the sunny day was great. The pyramid monument is unique. My wife and I enjoyed the little visit. It was less than 30 minutes to leave the highway and check... More

This park commerates the birthplace of President James Buchanan. It is a very small park. A road goes down the middle of it and is not much more than a mile long. There are quite few picnic tables and a couple of shelters. In the middle of the park is the monument dedicated to James Buchanan which sets on the... More

Buchanan's birthplace is located in a sylvan setting, and was apparently the first official state park. The monument is interesting, and reminded me of a Mason's symbol. I would not have been at all surprised to see the number "33" chiseled in the top stone. The historical markers are quite informative. The picnic areas looked serene and inviting.

This is a really nice park. Quiet and plenty of places to picnic. not sure if this park is used very much as it was empty when we went. Pleanty of shade and a really nice stream running through the place. Was a little disappointed that Buchanan's home is not really there. Just a monument.

This is an interesting PA State Park about a misunderstood President. Some call James Buchanan one of the worst presidents but this park and the presentation of its history and Pres. Buchanan presents a much different story. You really have to want to go there but we found it well worth the trip. It is actually only a few miles... More
