The museum is situated just above the beach in the village of Porthcurno.
It is quite tricky to visit here by public transport. The Land’s End Coaster bus runs here but is not very frequent (every 90 minutes).
It takes 45 minutes from Penzance and we had to wait an extra 90 minutes as our intended bus was full.
The museum content, however, made up for the difficult journey.
It traced the history of cable based telecommunications from the early days in the late 19th century and the original morse code based systems.
Its importance in the World War II was well documented with a large array of interesting exhibits in the underground tunnels.
I ventured up the stairs (over 120 of them) to
the lookout point to see the view of the local area.
I enjoyed the stories of the remote telegraph stations in Ascension Island and the Cocos Islands, where they managed to fight off the enemy in WWII.
The museum cafe is also very good with a nice selection of coffee and cake.
We paid half price admission of ÂŁ6 each as we were in possession of a local bus ticket.

A really interesting little museum explaining how global telecommunications came about. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Free parking available but access to the museum from the car park is via alot of steps. The museum itself is dog friendly though they are not allowed in the bunker which is understandable.
Nice little cafe which has both indoor and outdoor seating.
Definitely worth a visit.

A museum rich in history and truly immersive.
It was fascinating to follow the history of the centre and learn about the people who made the technology possible.
The photographs of the staff from wartime were evocative and emotional.
The bunker section was intriguing and really brought the exhibition to life.
Worth a visit.

A fascinating insight into communications systems. Interesting background brought into focus by the strctures of the second world war. Good clear presentation and some excellent videos and visual aids. Quite a bit of leg-work especially if you inspect the emergency exit (worth the effort). Car access good and apparently a bus network. Good shop and cafe. Plenty of good loos and some seating. However cash is not accepted and the card system was down - which was ironical for a Global Communications Museum. Well worth a visit.

Really interesting and informative. Museum had lots of things to keep children entertained (our two loved the Morse Code) and the World War 2 bunker was fascinating. Well worth visiting and also walking down to the beach. Look out for the unassuming little white hut as well - it’s more important than you might think!

We had such a lovely visit with our 10 and 8 year old. Lots of interesting, interactive exhibits for them to get involved with. The food in the cafe was very good and more interesting than most museum cafes. The staff were so lovely and friendly. My only question is, why isn’t it better advertised? The only reason we knew about it was because we’d seen it on the way to the minack theatre last year. We’ve not seen it in any tourist brochures or leaflets. Such a pity as it is well worth a visit!

Wow what an interesting place to visit, staff so welcoming and so knowledgeable. A group of 4 of us visited on our way to somewhere else and what a great find. The cafe was shut but staff told us on arrival but we did buy an ice cream which was very welcome.

Wow just an amazing place to visit. Car parking is free when you enter & give details so all good đź‘Ť. Lots of great exhibits but best of all is the WWII bunker. Lots & lots to inform even the youngest but the best bit the secret escape steps to the outside all original. Well done highly recommend đź‘Ť

This is a great museum. There is plenty here for adults and children. Our 10 year old and 8 year old grandchildren loved it. We could easily have spent another hour on top of the 1:30 we had available. Highly recommend a visit to this hidden gem.

This museum I found to be engaging and fascinating. Having an electrical engineering background probably helped in that opinion, but persons with little or no electrical knowledge would enjoy it just as much. The displays were easy to see and the facts accompanying them were clear and straightforward. I partook of the 'emergency exit' experience which was good for my fitness, although I was out-of-breath at the top..... :)
The small café was also friendly and we partook of the hot pasties that they had on offer.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Hello, Thanks for a great review and photos. I wonder does the museum have any examples of telephone switchboards, and did the shop have postcards?
Thanks again, Jim

The shop has postcards. I don;t think they had a telephone exchange.

Hi there, I visited the Museum some years ago with my family, I am visiting Cornwall again for two weeks from next weekend, unfortunately I now use a mobility scooter and would like information regarding the possibility of a visit with regard to my mobility issues.
D Adshead.

Hi,
Sorry for the delay - hopefully we have not missed your visit to Cornwall....
In terms of mobility access, you are more than welcome to use your mobility scooter in the museum, but it will be dependent on the size - only as we have a small lift. Alternatively, we do have a wheel chair that you can use.
Perhaps if call us on 01736 810966, and we will discuss the best options.
Many thanks
Rosa
