This rail trail is our family's favorite place for a good walk or bike ride. We walk here many times a week. The trail goes from Newville all the way through Oakville to Shippensburg, but we mostly walk the trail head in Newville. The Pennsylvania department of transportation leases the paved portion of the trail which is about 3/4 of... More

We did this ride today, starting at the Newville start point and stopping at the Shippensburg Park location, which was a little over 9 miles. The ride is beautiful - no major hills, flat surface, well maintained, often shaded, and great scenery. There are a few roads that you cross over, so you have to be careful for traffic but... More

NicE Trail through the countryside/farm land. Needs some maintenance to fill areas that have ruts or wash out. Some areas (hills) are paved but the rest is small gravel. Generally not too busy. An occasionally horse on the horse trail.

My family loves the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail. We use the trail for walking, biking and running. It is a perfect place for little ones to learn to bike. The trail is relatively flat with minimal road crossings, so your little speed demons can dart ahead from time to time. We have also spotted wildlife on the trail including a... More

Love the rail trail. The head of the trail is just out of downtown Newville. At the head there is a nice area for parking, picnic tables and bathrooms. The trail runs 11 miles to shippensburg, running through beautiful farm areas and wooded areas filled with beautiful birds and wildlife. Safe area for walking/biking, no traffic, although you do cross... More

Very nice trail. Level, crushed gravel. Shaded & open areas. The trailheads at Newville & Shippensburg were very nice with lots of parking, shaded picnic tables. Every person we passed said HELLO! We casually biked the trail over 2 days, starting from Shippensburg first & Newville second, using the picnic grove in Oakville for our lunches. Oakville does not have... More

This scenic trail is perfect for a country experience while exercising. Many stretches are shaded by seasonal trees and most of the trail is firm for biking. Only a couple of areas had thick fine stones that made biking a bit more tedious and some perimeter grass could use trimmed back in parts. This is a gem for a great... More

This trail is awesome. I have done from Newville to Shippensburg and back with family and our church youth group. Always a good ride... great exercise and beautiful scenery! Not heavily traveled but I have always felt safe. Excited for this trail to be extended!
