The HOWEVER is that we added the Penguins experience and we got to have a special moment learning about the Penguins they have including a little meeting and greet with'Happy' an adorable little South African Black Foot (aka, "jackass") Penguin.

As I lifelong birder I whole- heartedly endorse this place. The ONLY reason it's not a 5 for me is I didn't feel like staff was readily available for Q&A.

Loved the wide variety of birds and the ability to get up close (many birds are in free flight exhibits) to take some very fun pictures. Also enjoyed the penguin exhibit where you can watch both above and below the waterline. There were so many colors and types of birds to see in a compact area.

I highly recommend a trip here, but allow more time than you think you might take. There's so much to see with so many exotic/rare/unusual birds. I'd also recommend paying the $3 and feeding the birds in the one exhibit (they give you a cup of nectar, you walk in, and the birds land on your hands to lap the... More

The main aviary rooms are large, birds free to roam. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The scheduling of feedings are setup so you can be at all of them. The only downside is the cafe could have better food.

We enjoyed our visit to the National Aviary. We were able to get up close and personal with the birds. And we even got to feed them. There are signs that help you identify the birds that you are seeing - very much appreciated. The Aviary was very well run, clean/well kept, and the employees were knowledgeable and very helpful.... I loved the large rooms that immerse you in the environments with the birds. Very interesting. Different events are scheduled every half hour to hour makes it easy to spend time there so check the schedule. I fed lorakeets and pelicans. Watched flying fox bats being fed. Docents and staff are everywhere and very interested in answering questions.

The variety of birds organized by habitat are wonderful. The staff is friendly and informative. There are signs that help you identify the various birds as well. Try to catch a feeding time if you can.

Overall, the Aviary is a nice place to visit. As expected, you'll see several different kinds of birds. It didn't take us as long to go through the place as we had expected, so don't plan on being there a whole day (we might have been in and out in 2 hours or so). One word of caution - don't... More
