Come visit our historic site and experience everyday life on a circa 1800s working farm. Farming, animal care, gardening, heritage crafts, hearth cooking, one room school and wagon rides are just some of the activities to be enjoyed. Since 1963 Quiet Valley has been dedicated to preserving the rich history of America’s early farming families through educational programs, special events and summer tours. We went to visit, I checked the hours since it was a Sunday and on the website it says open 12-5. We got there at around 12:15 and a couple in a car (that was pulling in a driveway) said they were closed and have not been open on a Sunday in years!! The website still says Sunday 12-5pm.

We enjoyed a visit to the farm on Memorial Day weekend. Despite the cold and rainy weather, the volunteers had a great attitude, so friendly, and we learned a lot about historical farm life from spinning flax to baby animals to talking with Stan about ice harvesting. I think there are different events throughout the season, so check out the calendar first. We also heard that Christmas is a beautiful time to visit.

My main complaint was the lack of kindness from the staff. There were a few of the older woman that worked there, that were just plain rude to our chaperones and first graders. We had a great class, and paid to go there--would have been nice for them to try and be pleasant! Thumbs down.

Upon arrival we were greeted on our school bus by a less than friendly older woman informing us how we would exit the bus (girls first, followed by boys then chaperones) and expected to go directly into the gift shop. We would be given 12 minutes to shop for a class of 24 and we were given an explanation of how PA sales tax works so the children would not come up to her register without proper payment.
After hurriedly making their decisions even before having a tour of the farm, they were all in line waiting. (I don't know what their rationale is behind anyone buying anything without first learning the history behind the handcrafted items available for purchase but that's none of my business) A few children went through the line without incident until the woman came across, wait for it, A FOLDED TEN DOLLAR BILL. She made an immediate announcement that folded money was unacceptable and all money that was handed to her should be out flat and ready to be taken. Once we were done in there we were thankfully taken to tour the other buildings which were very interesting and did not meet up with this completely undesirable woman again.
The rest of the buildings were in amazing condition and the guides were knowledgeable. I did notice many of the guides were not in the best mood and had some sarcastic comments if students asked questions that they didn't want to answer.
As this was our first time there I am not sure if all of this was normal behavior or maybe an off day. After reading other reviews, most of which are positive, I would assume it was an off day but still would not make the drive to visit again. The whole place was mediocre and there are many more PA historical sites to visit in place of it. I still can't get over the elderly woman who greeted an entire bus of 7 and 8 year olds/chaperones like a drill Sargent. I did overhear that today was her last day and she would be starting retirement tomorrow. To her I can only say she left a negative lasting impression on many and hope for her sake she finds some happiness, she needs it.

Came for the Farm Animal Frolic. The price to get in was $8 p/p, the 6 year old was $5 and our 2yr old was free. Not SO bad right?..I guess..but EVERYTHING ELSE was extra money. And since this place is about the size of an oversized backyard- I just didn't think it was worth the money. We were expecting frolicking baby animals, but it was more like two bunnies in a cage the kids could pet, a couple ducklings and chicks they could pet. thats about it. Everything else was untouchable and in cages, NOT FROLICKING. My suggestion would be, to have free admission and let the money be earned through all the food and horse rides and games and souvenirs. The food is ...mehh... but the homemade souvenirs are cute. Skipped the $4 p/p wagon ride because we felt $16 to see the woods was silly. Cute place for little kids but we probably won't return, we work too hard for our money- and when we finally splurge for a little family outing- we want it to be worth every penny.

Go back in time! Great for all ages! We visited during the craft festival, which added to our enjoyment. Historians which work here are very knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed the school house with the teacher in her 1800s costume. She was extremely entertaining and held the attention of her youngest visitors, interacting with them and us older folks as well. I really was educated that day and I'm 68 years old! Animals on the farm which the children all enjoyed, this is a great spot to visit!

We found Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm in the "Poconos Today" brochure. We frequent the Poconos and are always looking for something new to keep us busy. Quiet Valley Farm was perfect! We picked the perfect day with the weather and they also offered craftsmen there to show us how they made baskets, embroidered, etc. We were able to go on each tour that was offered that day, guided by knowledgeable and engaging volunteers. Each person was in costume and stayed in the part they played of the family that had lived there. We also got to see the many animals they had on the farm and the huge gardens that gave them food. The samples of bread that they baked in the old oven were delicious and warm added to the "authentic" feel of it!
We paid $8 per adult to enter the farm and all proceeds from that fee went to running it since they keep the farm going through generous people and donations. It was well worth the small price we paid!

Authentic buildings and costumes from the 1700's. Skits on daily activities in that period. Bread baking in an original brick oven. Bread and baked beans for sale. Pocket cakes coked over outdoor grill on stones. Old time wedding reenactment. School tours spring and fall. Call for details. Medicinal herbs grown on farm, Ice harvesting 9in lake. Special programs in spring when farm ani8mals give birth. Well worth a visit,.

Absolutely an amazing place to visit, hands down!!! Wether it’s a family trip or a couple sneaking away for a few hours, quiet valley has something for everyone! The tours are entertaining, we learned a lot of interesting things about life in the poconos in the 1800’s; the bake oven and fresh bread is almost my favorite part (yes you get a sample 🤗). My kids loved to experience all of the animals and outdoor activities the farm offers, like the hay jump, wagon rides and a great gift shop! A perfect place to spend a day or just a few hours, 110% would recommend to any and everyone!

Great place for people of all ages. Children loved all the animals, many of which they could touch. Be sure to do all the guided tours that are available. Very informative about farm life in the 1800's. Watch where you walk since many animals are roaming free. Bathrooms are essentially outhouses and smell accordingly. Walking is easy, but some of the buildings have steps and are not designed for strollers or wheelchairs. Would highly recommend with or without children.

I would like to know if the staff at the farm can post "Do Not Feed" [Animals] in about 3 languages because we saw someone feed the giraffe and tried to tell them but they either chose to ignore us or did not understand English?
Written 27 August 2017
Sorry, wrong zoo but they should not do that when the signs says not to feed animals.

I don't work there or own Quiet Valley....I just go there. It is normally not open until the summer , for the exception of special events. June 20th thru Labor Day and select Saturdays 10am to 4pm. The first Event is the Animal Frolic , which is Memorial Day weekend and the weekend before. Then there is Harvest Fest, and Old Time Christmas. I would check the website so you know exactly when they are open. Also check the visitor centers in Pa for pamplets.
