Francis Slocum State Park named for the historical significance of the kidnapping by the Indians of young Francis Slocum during the early settling of the region. The park offers a PA State designated "big bass lake", boat launches, hiking trails, life guarded pool, paddle boat rentals, picnic pavilions for large groups, bird watching as well as the occasional deer that... This is a great place to take family photos. The scenery is beautiful. It's also a nice place for family reunions. There is a lot of space. It has a great children's playground, hiking, and a beautiful lake to fish or go boating.

I haven't been here since the summer but am due for another visit. The lake when frozen is awesome with the quacking from the ice

rent a paddle boat, canoe, fish, picnic at one of the pavillions or hike in the woods. Great place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. Pool available in summer, but have not used it in years.

Beautifully kept park. We seek about places we haven't been to for hiking. I was looking at another park when this popped up. I had just finished a book where the main character was Francis Slocum. It is an amazing story about a young Quaker girl that was taken by the Delaware Indians. So...not only is this park well kept,... More

This is really a great state park... Camping, fishing, boating, pool, picnic, hiking, mountain biking etc.. All sorts of things to do at this park. It does get a bit crowded on weekends in the summer, especially the pool area. It's maintained and kept well. Plenty of parking.

We always try to find a park with lovely scenery and pleasant walking trails when visiting an area. Frances Slocum State Park is a nice 20-minute drive from our hotel. We did not see the campground, although it came recommended. The park has spacious grounds, walking areas for casual hikers like us and those who appreciate more of a challenge.... More

Went camping at Frances Slocum for the first time and had a great time. We went in the rustic area which you need to walk to from a parking lot. Lots of tree cover and sites not on top of each other. Plenty of places to walk and explore. Close proximity to Wilkes-Barre. All around great time.

We camped at Frances Slocum this past Independence Day weekend in our pop-up camper. We decided to camp only a few weeks before the holiday, so this was the only state campground with spots left and there were only two remaining. I was concerned they would be lousy spots but, as it turned out, they were quite nice. Pros: -Despite... More
