Blithewold, named in Yankee Magazine's 2010 Best 5 Public Gardens in New England is located on Narragansett Bay, 25 minutes east of Providence and 60 minutes south of Boston. Blithewold, a 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay, is nationally significant in American history as one of the most fully developed and authentic examples of the Country Place era. We went on a weekday near the beginning of the season. The flowers hadn't bloomed yet so we'll go back, since they are likely to be spectacular. The tour was a lot of fun. Our tour guide, Suzanne, was a lot of fun. She was really passionate about the mansion, its history, and its amenities. Her enthusiasm and great storytelling... More

We came on a gray Saturday afternoon in late Feb and had the grounds entirely to ourselves. There is so much to see and explore even when the gardens aren't in bloom. The kids loved the waterfront (there is a little "beach" covered with limpet shells rather than sand) and the huge trees around the property. We also loved the... More

Gorgeous Manson and grounds. Enjoy a walk on the grounds, a tour of the mansion and if you can go during a holiday season, such as Christmas or Easter then the house will be decorated. Fantastic daffodil days in April. A must see!

Blithewold mansion decorates better than the Newport mansions at Christmas time. Do a tea at Christmas time, wonderful experience! Walk the grounds in the nice weather when the flowers are out & walk down to the water. Staff is always very eager to help/inform.
