You can spend an hour or two strolling the triangular, three-century-old Little Compton Commons, across from the town school, enclosing an old graveyard and the Congregational church, and one of just a few town commons left. Hollywood tried to persuade the townspeople to film its raunchy "Witches of Eastwick" but they recoiled and chased the filmmakers off to Massachusetts. It's... More

We come often to this beautiful corner of coastal Rhode Island- Little Compton is my idea of a New England village with its beautiful churches, white Greek revival and Federal houses perfectly preserved, ancient cemeteries with lichen-covered stones and little unpretentious shops and cafes. The general store is a treasure- groceries, gourmet prepared sandwiches, teas and coffees, delicious bakery goods,... More

A picturesque commons (the only commons in RI --- find out why) with the church, the common, the cemetery and a few low-key stores around it. Also the post office. Several centuries of well preserved buildings. Wilbur General Store not to be missed -- sells a little of everything. It is a great place to leave your car and bike... More

The Commons is the center of the town of Little Compton. It is anchored by three churches, a library, a true general store, a grade school with a playground open to the public and a post office. The cemetery next to the oldest church is the final resting place of the first white person born in what is now the... More

Actually I don't agree with the suggestion that this really is such an exceptional village to look at, although it is certainly worth seeing as a location and collection of buildings. The stand out thing to see is the obelisk in the centre of the burial ground marking the grave of Elizabeth Padabie. Her parents were Priscilla and John Alden... More

I love driving into Little Compton Commons because as I drive in the view makes me think about the people who walked here, people who rode horses to this commons, people who drove buggies here and those who drove in Model Ts and other automobiles over the past 80-90 years. This Commons never changes and it's a testament to those... More

This is simply a wonderful spot to explore- read the headstones of people who lived here 250 years ago- Revolutionary War soldiers, and even a mistress or two. The Congregational Church towers above the Commons, and is simply beautiful. When you're done walking around, be sure to visit the Commons Restaurant.

Not a whole lot to see or do in the Commons, but it offers a nice vibe and center of this charming town. Church cemetery dates back 200+ years if that sort of thing appeals.

This is one of the best New England town common's. The church and the church yard are beautiful and the grave yard with stones dating from the early 1600's are quite remarkable.

This is a classic New England town commons area, with churches, stores, graveyards and all. The stores are fun to wander through and the Thursday's Thrift Shop has quite a good selection.
