The Foundation welcomes visitors to explore daily life in one of Charleston's most exquisite dwellings. Located in Downtown Charleston near High Battery, the Nathaniel Russell House Museum, 51 Meeting Street, is widely recognized as one of America's most important neoclassical dwellings. Historic Charleston Foundation purchased the National Historic Landmark in 1955, and the house served as the Foundation's headquarters for 37 years. Today, the interiors are restored to their original 1808 grandeur and surrounded by formal gardens.

I really enjoyed the tour because it helps me to understand the rich history of Charleston, SC. Hopefully others will take this tour to find out about the folks who governed this state.

The only way to walk through the NRH is with a tour guide. Usually I do not enjoy this, but our tour guide was great! It was worth the wait and even the slow pace. It is a great contrast to the Aiken Russell house. You can get one ticket to see both places, and both are worth a visit.

It was fascinating to learn about the time and effort that goes into the restoration process. This was a great look into the past regarding lifestyle and architecture.

our tour guide was raving about this place and the tour was great, and the house has some cool artifacts but did get to be a bit boring as we have seen much better guided historic house tours.

Love, love, love this house. Daughter and I toured the homes of Charleston and this was by far our favorite. Walk through his home with a guide. She had wonderful stories to share about the residents and their guests and of course the house itself. Her live of the home was evident. They are still finding things about the house... More

We went to a cool rainy day, so quite crowded. But SO worth it. Grounds are spectacular and our hostess was very knowledgeable. If you are interested in architecture- take an afternoon visit

If you like architecture, this is a very interesting home. the rooms are all different and restored to their previous glory. The furnishings are period authentic. The garden was in bloom and lovely.

My husband and I enjoyed our visit to the Nathaniel Russell House. The tour guide did a good job telling us about the history of the house. Nice small garden also. Recommend this tour!

Enjoyed the tour of the house. Certainly a must see of how the wealthy lived at one time in Charlestown. They have done their best to recreate and reconstruct the house to its period. The tour was well done. Our tour guide was a bit of a 'fast speaker' but she was quite willing to answer questions and go over... More

Our group arrived at this location for a tour and what a delightful time we had. Our tour guide was Ken and he did an excellent tour. There were two stories of the home which had been restored to the original form. Ken talked about how some of the experts had removed 22 levels of paint to restore to original... More
