Theatre 99 is Charleston's Home for Improv Comedy. It is not a comedy club as Trip Advisor has listed it as. It is a 130 seat theatre, not a club with tables. We specialize in improvisational comedy which is unscripted theatre. It makes for a very funny night. We just don't want users of Trip Advisor to come expecting stand up comics telling jokes on a microphone. Theatre 99 does host stand up comedy shows periodically, but our main focus is improve comedy on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. Thank you for supporting live performance!

This is your average whole in the wall local comedy venue. The improv shows are Wednesday and Friday, I believe. What a lot of fun. The group is great. They are funny and off the cuff. For just a few bucks you get a couple of hours of solid laughs. This is especially good for anyone staying downtown as parking... More

Improvisation is an art form, and the comedians at Theater 99 are true artists. My honey and I went with our Charleston friends (who are regulars there) and it was a highlight of our Charleston visit. The troupe is incredibly talented and they really roll with the punches. There's a nice little bar for wine, beer and snacks to tide... More

I have been to multiple improv theatres and there were parts that were funny and parts that were just "meh." Because there is a lot of audience participation, it was my impression that one guy in the back dominated all the suggestions, which made me think he might actually be a plant, which tainted my experience. I would go again,... More

I didn't laugh historically. I was kinda force-laughing so my friends would think I was having a good time. The jokes they made often made fun of others, but in a judgmental way. Like "I'm laughing at you, not WITH you." I wouldn't go back, or recommend it to my friends.

I have been coming to Theater 99 regularly for almost a decade and still love it as much (if not more) as I did the first time I saw a show! The cast members are superb and always provide an excellent, unique show - you could go every time they're open and have a completely different experience each time! If... More

I love visiting Charleston for its architecture and history and seafood and romantic boat rides with my wife but sometimes it seems like the night life is a bit lacking. Theatre 99 is the perfect remedy! It's a fun night out in an intimate space and the drinks are totally affordable. Most importantly it's funny stuff from a very talented... More

GO-GO-GO. Do not hesitate for one minute. Don't let the fact that it is so unbelievably cheap make you think it must not be good & they gotta give it away. We went to the "Laugh for a Lincoln" show because we were just looking for something to do at night at the last minute. Funniest 2 hours we've spent... More

Very intimate theatre surrounding small stage on 3 sides. Good sight lines. Comfortable seats, reclining in the center section. Beer and wine for sale and can be taken into the theatre. Fun place well frequented by locals.

This show was funny, raunchy, irreverent and loads of laughs. We enjoyed it so much we purchased Kate and Maries CDs. Basically it was toilet and relationship humor done musically. What sold on it before I even bought tickets was the shows description: It's Tenacious D and Dolly Parton mixed.

Its off the beaten path behind down an alley way in back of a bicycle shop you will find the stairs to this fun theater. These people are hilarious. Inexpensive fun. There is a lot of audience participation that makes it so interesting and lots of laughs. . .
