It was really too far out to get a good photo shot of the lighthouse. Highly recommend taking a boat tour that takes you up close.

It's a long drive to the end of Ashley Drive and then a long walk to the beach where you can finally see the lighthouse out in the bay. I would not recommend this trip unless you enjoy observing and studying lighthouses in general.

As others have stated, this is not the type of lighthouse you can climb. You can, however, have a look at it from the end of Ashley Ave on Folly Beach. It's a little bit of a walk but nothing too strenuous. The view of...More

This is probably a hidden gem. This activity was about the best thing we did on our entire 4 days in Charleston. The weather was perfect to go out onto the river. The guide was very nice and informative. I was hoping for a mixture...More

Go to the end of Ashley Ave and park. Walk on the paved path to the end, then there's a sandy path that takes you to the water and gorgeous view of the lighthouse. Was a very easy walk. Can also see the bridge in...More

This Charleston secret is at the north end of Folly Beach. A short 1/2 hike takes you one of the best vistas in Charleston. You can ramble down the beach and see Morris Island lighthouse and on a clear day Sullivans Island Lighthouse. In the...More

Best way to view is by walking to the edge of Folly Beach, others like the view from a boat, but I like the calm and quiet of walking. IT IS NOT A SHORT WALK, but it's well worth it. This is the best lighthouse....More

Capt Gresh took us on our tour and we had a great time, used a castnet to show water dwellers in the marsh, saw dolphins, walked Morris Island, learned about the Lighthouse from an 8th generation resident of the area.

Must come! The view is amazing. Lighthouse is so so, you can't really go any near to it. However, the view is breath taking and the wind blowing on you just relax you. I will overall experience is a 5 star. If you're only interested...More

We went to the north end of Folly Beach in the wildlife area and found a beautiful beach with a great view of the lighthouse. Even for mid-day, it wasn't crowded at all.

Not really. The base is no longer really connected to land, and it is rather unsafe to boot. That said, I don't think anyone is really watching it on a regular basis, so if you took a small boat/paddleboard/kayak/etc over... More

I think it would be a beautiful spot for any photo. But remember you have to walk about a quarter of a mile to get to the spot so in the heat of a Charleston summer it may be quite hot and it is on the ocean so it will be... More
