This is a place that we need more of. A place to turn phones off and have some fun while learning and appreciating history. From small children to seniors, they have exhibits for all to enjoy. We loved the planetarium, saw the one about Sea Monsters and it was fantastic! Grab the family and go..you won't regret it.

Much better than anticipated. Museum was not at all crowded midweek. Great exhibits and Imax theater. Staff at the telescope exhibits were very conscientious and clearly love their jobs. Hunley exhibit very interesting.

We really enjoyed the experiences of this museum from the 4d theater to the live astronomy exhibit with a telescope pointed at the sun during the day. The museum stays open some nights to look at the night sky. 4floors of history! We took an afternoon to have a look and it was time well spent. The staff was especially... More

We enjoyed a pre-Christmas visit to the lovely State Museum of South Carolina while staying at the Embassy Suites in Columbia near the zoo, a quick drive to the museum on Gervais Street. We visited on a recent Tuesday evening, when the normal admission price was reduced to 2 for $10 (extra charges for Imax theatre, etc.) We also enjoyed... More

The South Carolina State Museum is a great place to visit. There are many exhibits where one can learn about various times in history. There are hands on exhibits where you can explore different areas. Kids and adults will enjoy the museum. A family would enjoy visiting the museum for an afternoon.

We visited the museum about 7 years ago and had the opportunity to visit again yesterday. It was fantastic!!! Families and couples were enjoying the many exhibits. Early South Carolina, the civil war, transportation etc, etc, etc. Their were many hands on exhibits that were great for kids and seniors that are young at heart!!!! My wife and I had a great time.

Visited the SC Museum on a Saturday afternoon with my wife and 14 year old son. We went to see the movie Polar Express in the 4D Theater. It was a great show with all the smells of hot cocoa, falling snow, spraying water. We then went to the Planetarium and saw piece on Planet Earth. Very interesting and a... More

Every Tuesday the tickets are discounted & there's still plenty to do. The observatory is a fine addition.

Decided to go one Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to find it was "First Sunday" which meant general admission was only $1 - you pay additional for special attractions; but the museum offers 4 floors of interesting exhibits..
