Was great to be able to drive through at your own pace. Nice to have this accessible to those that wouldn't be able to walk through the refuge. The audio stops were informative and noted cool parts of history.

The visitor center was great--friendly and informative docents and good displays. Then came the best part--the drive through the four miles of nature. So happy that we saw so many species of birds in their natural habitat. You can pull over to appreciate the views....More

Came on a perfect sunny day in April and we didn't see much of anything... I suggest that if you do have an hour to kill this place is the right place but if you don't just keep on driving by... There was virtually nothing...More

Often overlooked, this time we stopped, armed with bug spray, we enjoyed the drive through, enjoying lots of wildlife. This refuge is built on former rice fields.

This was a great find. We could drive thru and even stop and look for wildlife, of which there are a lot of gators. The best time to go is right before sundown when the Temps are better suited for the gators to be active....More

Has anyone been there very recently, like late August 2016? Have they started raising the interior basin water levels yet, or is is still dry and overgrown as it has been for the past year? Wondering what it will be like in early September.
