Mediocre at best. Dining hall is buffet only and not open during the week (even though the website said they have breakfast, lunch & dinner server). There are no grills or fire pits for the lodge rooms (which are both on the map and website buy isnt accurate). Nothing nearby. Some lodge rooms are updated and ok but not worth the money. The campground looked great and the lake is beautiful. Call ahead so you know what you are getting into.

Awesome skeet shooting experience for some novice skeet shooters! The park rangers working with us Kaelyn (sp?) and Katie were patient with us and the pointers they gave us helped us hit a clay pigeon every now and then! The cost per person is reasonable considering they provide the shotguns, 25 shells per person, the clay pigeons, eye and hearing protection and instruction too! I am so glad they asked if we preferred 20 gauge or 12 gauge as the 20 gauge was nice and the 12 gauge would have been tough. I recommend shooting 20 gauge unless you are an experienced shotgun shooter as it does not kick near as much.
We stayed at the lodge so we could keep our dog with us. You have to keep your dog on a leash while in the park and you can't leave your dog alone in the room but that is not a hardship since we are used to our dog going with us or someone taking the dog for a walk while we are doing various things. The lodge rooms are nice and clean. don't leave the balcony door open or you will have bugs in your room - we had to clear out some daddy longlegs (only 4 of them) and after that, we were good. I love the adirondack double chairs on the porch.
We got breakfast at the restaurant right next to the office each morning and got our coffee there also. It was reasonably priced, good and you just have to pick it up to go right now.
We were disappointed the archery range was closed while we were there. I think it was because of staff shortages, but we borrowed horse shoes and played some horse shoes, although it was a challenge to find the horse shoe pits, which are near the basketball court on the side away from the parking lot there. We looked up how to keep score with our phones and modified the rules slightly and then went at it. The Beaver run trail was a good 2.5 miles one way and we returned the same way for a challenging hike only because of the 5 mile distance. The trail is fairly level the entire way with just a few insignificant changes in elevation every now and then. Our last night we went to a local brewery just across the lake in Georgia (about 15 minutes away) and had a great time with live music! We planned to canoe, play golf and hike the other two trails but will have to come back for all of that. I love the way our state parks in South Carolina are making it possible to take our dog with us! This is a game changer for us as we will visit with the entire family much more often over the coming years.

I live near Hickory Knob and have been here a lot. I was even a volunteer ranger there for several years. I went golfing there last week and was upset as to how bad shape it was in. The cart path was never good because of all the roots that pushed up the asphalt, making rows of speed bumps, but a couple of years ago, their solution was to just grind down the paths where the roots were. They never came back to re-apply any asphalt but left the old, ground up asphalt on the path. The paths are even worse than they were with the roots. The grinding created pot holes and un-even surfaces.

Speaking of pot holes, there are many places in the fairways where you're driving along and hit a pot hole or a sunken area that is not visible because of the height of the grass. Dirt is cheap; they should fill in those holes when they notice them, and also put dirt alongside the cart path where you need to exit the fairways. There are lots of big rocks and roots you have to dodge to avoid.

This is a very well laid out course and could be beautiful if management just spent some money on improvements. I was told years ago that this course and resort made more money that any other state park in SC. So much, that the money was spread around to all the other state parks. If they not careful, they are going to lose most of their golfing customers.

Lovely place to visit. Lots of things to do including hiking and archery. Did I mention the pool! Great employees as well. Can't wait for the next visit.

The motel like rooms were adequate albeit a bit "tired". A no frills room but in a lovely setting. Cable TV and WiFi are available. The park offers a pool/campground/golf course/dining room/gift shop/trails/boat launch/cabins with kitchens/a conference center and small meeting rooms.
I was there attending a conferece but I plan to return to camp/hike/swim this summer.

This is the second time we have visited Hickory Knob State Park “campground”. After the first bad experience I gave them the benefit of the doubt and returned a year later, never again. To get straight to the point the campground is a crappy mud pit. Absolutely no care is put into campsites or even the road around them. Today I witnessed a 2nd camper get stuck in the “road” while trying to pull their camper out. However, I will add they appear to focus ALL attention on the cabins and golf course. Don’t waste your time on camping here. I normally do not leave reviews, but hopefully this will save someone the disappointment.

Very clean park grounds and facilities. Nice pool, playground and lake access for swimming. Have several types of recreational equipment to rent or use. Stayed in a lakefront lodge room that was very nice. Had a balcony. Park has a restaurant,

The Rangers and front desk staff are amazing. They have been more than accommodating for our family. We highly recommend staying here. The restaurant was delicious and the amenities are awesome . The pool, hiking trails and fishing were great. We will definitely be back in the near future.

yes the staff are friendly but didn't know much about there restaurant, we went to there breakfast on Thanksgiving and asked if we had to eat off the buffet or if I could order off the menu, they said I could order off the menu, after I ordered I was told no you have to eat off the buffet, I'm not a fan of buffet's but we had drinks already and kinda had to stay, The camp site's are the worst, you camper is all unlevel and full of mud, and it was a rainy week end, and they let you bring your pets but don't make the owners pick up after the pets use the restroom and I stepped in dog crap and had it all over my car, in my camper, and the week end was just a muddy mess, I will not go back there and would not tell any one else to go,
