If you like a beach without anything but a beach, this is a great place to go. You can see gators on one side of the access road but unfortunately the nature center and it's "residents" just burned to the ground from a lightning strike.

This is a great place to camp for a day or a few weeks. All camp spots have water, cable and power. Many also have a dump station right there. It is then only a short walk to the beach where you can swim, fish...More

Parking is a bit of a hike, can't carry in coolers or gear very well but if you pack light, you can enjoy the day.

We try to go every time we visit and there is always something new to see. Bird watching, alligators in the marsh, amazing sunsets....and a very nice beach!

Our first visit! It's a joy to see a lovely natural beach after the chaotic commercialism of Myrtle Beach. Parking, changing and rest rooms, outside showers are all convenient. Worth the $5/person entrance fee. We will have to go back to see the Atalaya site....More

Huntington Beach State Park gives you the best of all worlds. You get access to a gorgeous and relatively private beach (it's $5 each to get in so you don't get as many people as the public free access beach areas). You also get to...More

Which is the best picnic shelter to reserve close to the ocean but not a long walking distance from the parking area? Looking at a small wedding in September and need a location for older guest to sit for a short ceremony in the sand prior to the event.

There are nice covered picnic tables near the boardwalk that leads to the beach from the parking lot. Not a long walk!!

What is the temp like in mid-april? Is it warm enough for the kids to enjoy swimming? Would they burn by the sun at that time of year?
