First, we aren't marines nor do either of us have anyone in our families who are marines, but we respect the tradition and those who serve and were interested in learning more about the Corp while we were visiting Beaufort. We were not disappointed. This is a nice little museum (free, donations welcome) with interesting interactive elements like feeling the... More

Friends recommended that we visit this museum while in the area. It was time well spent. They have a good display about the history of this area. The displays and movie about the Marine Corps and the boot camp at Parris Island were excellent.

By pure chance we were there on graduation day - we missed the actual ceremony but saw many proud parents and grads thoughout the site. The museum is terrific - especially the film that outlines in detail all of the steps and hurdles (physical and mental ) that young marines ( men and women) need to meet to pass.

I am a Stanley Kubrick fan (Full Metal Jacket) so being in the area, I wanted to check out the museum. A well-armed Marine dressed in a camouflage outfit met our car at the gate. We were required to submit passports, car ownership, insurance & driving license and another soldier then told us that we had to be "processed." This... More

First, we both love good museums and take our time when visiting. This museum does a great job explaining the history of the Port Royal/Beaufort area (including Parris Island). Lots of artifacts including and as you might expect, lots of weaponry. This museum offers so much more than just the history of the Marines on Parris Island. The museum was... More

The PI Museum has something for everyone. Lots of history and a very patriot place. The people greeting us were kind and very helpful. Free event for all.

Didn't realize that you can actually visit the entirety of Parris Island! Growing up in the south, have always known about Parris Island and had a morbid curiosity - it's actually quite fascinating for someone who has never been on a military base - just like a midget city - only with better amenities!! We could actually watch the recruits... More

We had the good fortune to visit on Family Day when the museum was crowded with happy families and new Marines enjoying a five-hour liberty and looking forward to graduation the next morning. Combat veterans and other Marines of long standing were stationed at various places in the museum to meet and greet, answer questions and serve as needed. It... More

Great place to visit. Very interesting. Didn't take more than an hour. Would suggest going on a day other than Family Day since it was pretty busy and not much room to move around. The gift shop was packed but they did have things in there that you couldn't get in The exchange...worth the visit!

I was inspired to go here because of having seen Full Metal Jacket a million times while growing up, and it's an experience to go here. You have to pass a military checkpoint before entering, which can feel intimidating, but they just check your ID and ask you the purpose of the trip. Being on the base is a little... More
