The mission of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation is to protect and preserve the culture, tradition and living heritage of the North American Indians. The Foundation demonstrates its commitment to this endeavor by continuing the progress on the world's largest sculptural undertaking by carving a memorial of Lakota leader Crazy Horse; by providing educational and cultural programming; by acting as a repository for American Indian artifacts, arts and crafts through the INDIAN MUSEUM OF NORTH AMERICA(R) and the NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL & CULTURAL CENTER(R); and by establishing and operating the INDIAN UNIVERSITY OF NORTH AMERICA(R) and, when practical, a medical training center for American Indians.

Well worth a look. Crazy Horse's head is just about finished. His horses head is set out on the granite. It gives you an idea of the size of the undertaking

A must to see in the day time, but go late in the afternoon so you can stay or come back for the laser light show at night a must to see and a story to be told, rain or shine they have it around 9pm Really tells about the dedication of the person who started it all.

This is the second most attractive site Black Hills. The number one. However once you get there, you recognize the enormity task to make it. It is a family saga to honor Native Americans. The stone carving of the head is unique. It is not even done!

I have been to the Black Hills of South Dakota nearly every summer for the last 15+ years. It has been amazing to see the difference of Crazy Horse throughout those years. Some people say they won't visit it since it is not completed yet ---- I say they are CRAZY! That is one of the most attractive things, to... More

In my opinion, it is too soon to see this memorial. They have a long way to go and you can't really get close to it. You can snap a photo on zoom from the entrance gate. There are some exhibits inside, but still not worth the money to me.

Interesting back story to this place. Nice to see a BIG long-term project underway. Will it ever be completed? Who knows! But oh what a vision.

We enjoyed spending an hour or so here. Loved looking at all the history. We didn't spend the extra money to get closer to the rock but it has a great view outside.

I wasn't interested in going to this place, but everyone else in the family was. Once I got there, I was impressed and enjoyed learning about this Memorial. We saw a movie giving us the history of the place and the family involved in building the statue. It was accessible by wheelchair and we rode a private bus up to... More

Yes, one man began this memorial in 1948...estimates are that it will be complete in 4 generations. There is a 1/34 scale model of the complete project outside of the museum . Pay the money for the bus that takes you to the base of the mountain. There are 13 men who work on the project daily. Be sure to... More

I very much enjoyed going to this memorial. You are not able to get very close because it is under construction. There is a museum that is mostly about the Warriors that fought Custer. The gift shop is beautiful - all of the structures are beautiful. Because this memorial is not supported in any way by the federal government, I... More
