It was a pretty fun area to hike. All flat and surrounded by the Missouri River. Very pretty with a couple historic markers on it.

I was glad to see that the island, once called "I'll humored island" by Lewis and Clark has been maintained as a natural preserve. There are hiking trails into the woods. We enjoyed the trail by the river, which is excellent for running, walking, or biking.

Taking a walk on La Framboise Island was the best part of our visit to Pierre. Even during a late morning stroll, there were so many birds flying about and chattering that I think it would have been a phenomenal birding outing in the early morning hours. If it hadn't been so hot during our visit, we would have gone... More

There is an amazing variety on La Framboise Island. You can run from forest to a patch of prairie to beaches along the river. It's a great place for a stroll, or, in my case, a great place for some trail running. If you're up to it, take a swim suit and cool off in the river before you run... More

Where trees are scarce on the prairie La Framboise Island is a great escape to the woods. Located right in Pierre, it's super convenient. Lots of trails that you can spend hours on. Watch out for ticks in the spring though!

I was looking forward to a walk after a long car ride. The Island is definitely a worthy hike but there were too many bugs the afternoon we were in Pierre. We liked the view of the water and the park by the Island.

I enjoyed walking the trail along the outside of the island. Will have to hike some more of them when I am back another time.

Nice trails for hiking or biking. You can can do as little or as much as you want. I've been on every trail, every shore. Its an unexpected treat next to the capitol city. Its still in recovery from the flood of 2011, and you can see the water lines on many of the trees, but its one of my... More

There is a "river rat taxi" that will take you over to the island for a donation otherwise just hike up your shirt and shorts and wade over. There are plenty of boats docked on the weekends and holidays but always room for more. There isn't a sandy beach but more of a clay/mud beach. Good place for younger adults... More
