Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles.

Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle.

DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

A group of our family (ages 3 to 83) thoroughly enjoyed our "Duck" tour. Though we live near Chattanooga, we learned many new things and enjoyed sharing such a unique experience with some of our out-of-town relatives. Once we were in the water the guides invited the children to drive for a bit which was a very exciting adventure for... More

We had a great time. Our guide, Dave, was knowledgeable and funny. I learned many things that I hadn't heard before. My friends were longtime Chattanooga residents and they liked the tour as well.

We have lived in the Chattanooga area all of our lives and planned a weekend staycation doing things that we have never attempted in the past. We took this tour with our 4,7 and 8 year old children. They had a ball. Our captain was amazing (I wish I remembered his name). He was very informative and engaging. All 3... More

We decided to go on the duck tour and we had a great time. Our guide Barry was funny and gave us some fun facts about Chattanooga. We also had an opportunity to drive the boat.

We had a blast on this tour. Our tour guide Dave was knowledgeable and quite funny. The tour lasted a little over an hour and you get to see part of the downtown area at river level. Dave allowed anyone who wanted to to steer the boat and the kids on the tour got a real kick out of it.... More

The Chattanooga Ducks is a great attraction! It is also surprisingly informational. The guides are very interactive and the ride is extremely entertaining. It is great for all ages and you will definitely learn something about Chattanooga while getting to see the city from the river, which is a perfect viewpoint.

Went on a Monday morning. The tour guide was wonderful. I think he said his name was Rob. Full of information about the Tennesee river, the island, the bridges. the history of Chattanooga, the flood and the underground floors of buildings. He recommended other attractions as well. He was funny, entertaining and resourceful. Would ride again.

This is a great ride for everyone. My husband and I took my 85 year old mom and she really enjoyed it. Splash was our captain and he was very informative and friendly. A little road time and then splash into the Tennessee River. This is a must for Chattanooga.

Great guides with a lot of information about the local area. All kids got to drive the "Duck Boat" which was a thrill for them.
