Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles. Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle. DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

We got there 10 minutes early and the duck was completely full. They didn't tell us we should get there real early. We had to sit up front where there was no leg room at all! I think kids should have to sit in front,...More

This is a warm day fun trip. As you move around town towards the river your guide gives you a great narrative of downtown Chattanooga. You enter the river at full speed but don't worry you don't get soaked! On down the river more Chattanooga...More

We had a great trip to Chattanooga and the Duck ride was part of the reason. Splash was our driver and he was hilarious while educational. Highly recommend Chattanooga Ducks! Dress warm and possibly waterproof in cooler weather. You might get wet entering the river.

A unique hour-long tour in a bus/boat. Knowledgeable and friendly guide. Prices a little steep for a whole family, but everyone enjoyed the experience. Bonus was letting the kids drive the boat!

We had a great time on the Chattanooga Aqua Ducks. Took the grandkids and they all got to drive in the water. They loved it!

No you don't get soaked. Occasionally when the wind is very strong from the west it can blow into the Duck. On those days the Captain will usually enter the water slower to reduce the "splash"

I just checked their website and it looks like they only have tours from March to October. You can give them a call to find out for sure.

It last close to an hour. Most of the visit is on the water with a short shuttle from their 'base' to the launch site. One suggestion . . .make sure you charge your devices to capture everything. Hope you enjoy!
