This museum has a sizable collection of African art as well as artifacts and exhibits about the local Black culture. It provides great details about Bessie Smith and other local entertainers, including the Impressions!

We stopped here because our daughter had recently done a report on Bessie Smith for school. There is a lot of information on African History and culture here as well and information on the Civil Rights Movement. The Bessie Smith part was smaller than expected...More

The Bessie Smith Cultural Center and Museum is under utilized by the community-in my humble opinion. It gets a good crowd during the Bessie Smith Strut during the River Bend Music Festival. However, it also offers other events open to the public, like the First...More

Nice, educational museum. Cool artwork on the walls. The staff are pretty friendly. The admission price is reasonable.

I loved my visit to this attraction. My great-grandfather, grandfather, and aunts are featured here. There is so much history and African-American history in Chattanooga. History that you do not find in the history books. My only suggestion would be to include notes on everyone...More

Unless you are a "Brother" or"Sista" you might want to stay away from this location. It is in a bad side of the city where your car can become of an interest. It's party time when the "Strut" is going on.. Just not for everyone.

We are glad we visited the Bessie Smith Hall. We spent about 2 hours learning and reflecting. We gained information about Africa, Slavery, and local Chattanooga History that we never knew existed. We would recommend this museum be added as a "must see" stop for...More
