Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

During our visit to Tennessee, we visited several Caverns. The Raccoon Mountain caverns are the only alive caves around. The walk is gentle and the scenery is wonderful. Our guide was very informative. This is a good place to take photography. For the Wild at Heart, they offer wild cave tours. This is not a good idea for the elderly,... More

We did the 2-hour long Fossil Cave tour. It was GREAT! Very interesting. Our guide, Devin, was SO knowledgeable and helpful. He is fantastic. I would say it is an intermediate tour, as there is some climbing and crawling-- we were definitely muddy. This is a great family or group outing.

Nice tour, but we've seen other caves. Prices for panning were expensive compared to other places we've visited. Especially since you can buy the same items cheaper in the gift shop. Employees were very friendly. Might return to camp one day.

We lucked out and had tour guide just to the two of us. He was friendly, informative, and didn't rush or dawdle. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip through the caves. Even at 6'2" tall, I managed to never bonk my head!

We stayed in the campgrounds on our way up I75 and so glad we found this place! We went as soon as they opened and were the only ones on the 45 minute walking tour. The guide was so friendly and knowledgeable and they take great care to preserve the integrity of the caverns. We visited Ruby Falls later but... More

Our group was small which was nice. Our tour guide Michael was great. It was a beautiful cave and we would have loved to see more. I like the variety of cave tours from tame to adventurous. I'd like to come back and try a different cave route. Price-wise I think it was a bit high for the time we... More

We took the shorter tour and there were about 10 people in the group we were with. We had done Ruby Falls in the past and I must say this one was better and more interesting. The tour lasted about 50 minutes and our guide was very knowledgeable. We saw several cave salamanders. Some uneven terrain and stairs, but not... More

We went to chattanooga for a family get-away during fall break. We decided to go to Raccoon Mountain Caverns on our way back to Huntsville. We have four children, ages 11,10,6,5 and they all enjoyed the cave tour. It was just engaging enough for our older kids, but not too longer for our younger two. We would definitely go back,... We certainly enjoyed our tour of the cavern with Ben. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions. Part of our group had been on other cavern tours and thought this one was one the best cavern tours. Very reasonably priced too!
