Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

Rained nonstop all day, but that does not mean your adventure is cancelled. On the contrary, I received an email saying bring extra clothes because you WILL get dirty! The abundance of rain made an already adventurous tour, all the more exciting, enlivening the natural waterfalls and creating streams and pools underground where they hadn't been before. And we had... More

We spent three hours on the Echo Cave Crawling Tour. It was first thing Monday morning and we hit it right. Just the two of us and the amazing Michael Herrera. We climbed, scrambled, scraped, and occasionally walked. We were covered in mud from head to toe and it was fabulous. If you are at all adventurous, this is a must... More

By far the BEST field trip I've ever taken with students. Not only did we see what we're studying in class but we challenged ourselves, worked together, and got really dirty! The guide was excellent and was extremely knowledgeable and fun. It was also nice to have some choices in certain areas of "easy" or "squeezy"! This will now be... More

Glad we did this. We did the walking tour which was about an hour and a chilly, damp walk through really beautiful cave. Our tour guide was great. The ground is wet so I don't recommend wearing open toe shoes. We considered doing the climbing, crawling tour but after I saw the water on the ground and how cold it... More

Wow. This is a beautiful cave, but what made the experience truly memorable was our guide. At Ruby Falls, be prepared to have a bored collegiate take you through with a speal they can recite in their sleep. At Raccoon Mountain Caverns, our guide had a Masters in Cave Science. You can imagine the difference. Our guide, Devin, was knowledgeable,... More

Staff was super helpful and it was a blast. Be prepared to get VERY dirty but it was great fun and very memorable. $30 was well worth it.

So glad we chose to tour this cave. Matt was our tour guide and did a great job. He was super friendly and very informative. He spotted several cave creatures (mainly tiny salamanders) and made sure to show us and tell about them. This cave is the best one I've been in. I was very surprised by what we got... More

We stayed in a cabin at the Raccoon Mountain Campground. The facilities were nice and only steps away from the Caverns. The staff are well informed and the caves were everything we expected. We participated in the Fossil Wild Cave Crawl which allowed 2 1/2 hours of fun.

Our first opportunity to visit Raccoon Mountain Cavern was this past December, as its proximity coincided perfectly with our journey as well as my 3rd grade daughter's homeschooling science assignment. Having recently learned about earth's features, she was to build a model cave. So we headed over to Raccoon Mountain Caverns, and the Crystal Palace tour was fabulous. A few... More
