While there was nothing really extraordinary about this market I still gave it a five stars because in a sense it is different from other markets... I cannot put my finger on it but it was a pleasant and interesting experience. The prices are definitely geared towards "gringos" and so don't be shy about offering less, sometimes much less that originally asked for. One more thing: virtually everything (hats, bags, etc. ) are made in China.... There is nothing wrong with that but just be aware of it...

The Masaya Artesan Market is located in a fort-like building. There are a number of vendors there selling beautiful artisan goods such as clothing and handicrafts. The stalls are well spaced out and there is a calm atmosphere to the place. There is a really nice mural featuring landmarks from Nicaragua inside the complex. When we came there it wasn’t very busy, so if you like to take your time shopping and don’t like crowds then this could be the place for you. It felt very touristy to us and prices seem a bit on the high side, but it’s a nice place to briefly stop by and look around. On Thursday nights they have performances here including traditional dancing.

It was a great place to find a lot good culture gifts. Make sure you bring American money. Some of the shops do take credit cards.

Found quite a few things to buy for friends and family back home. Handmade items mostly. Souvenirs and the like. Nice walk. Mostly covered so a nice escape from the sun. Friendly people and nice atmosphere.

I am always interested local artisans, their goods and spending time watching them. Unfortunately this market is cleaned up and just "too perfect" in that it's really just for tourists. They had some good looking items but each shop seemed to resemble the other. Friendly shopkeepers but I found the streets and shops, (with their clutter and and less than spiffy appearances) in the surrounding immediate neighborhood much more interesting and enlightening.

I am always interested in visiting a native market in the countries I visit. This one was not impressive. They had some good smoothie drinks, and the people are certainly nice, but it didn't have that much merchandise, and it was repeated, booth after booth. I did get a nice leather-bound journal, but did not find anything else to write home about.

Interesting and large variety of local artists handicrafts. Mostly wood or textile works. There is also an interesting museum on place.

The market is smaller than I thought it would be, maybe only two city blocks. Note that some of the stores start closing earlier than the 6:00 pm closing time listed in our guide book. So, don't show up at the last minute.

this market is the best place in all of nicaragua to buy souveniers and gifts to take home.. there are lots of crafts and trinkets. Often there is some local musicians playing there just for tips, and there is a booth where they cook authentic street food there. pretty awesome little place, dont miss it.
