About
Free access to the La Hougue Bie grounds only from 1 November to 31 December 2021. La Hougue Bie delivers a truly memorable experience that is at once thought provoking and peaceful. The site features one of Europe's finest passage graves where you can learn about life in Jersey's Neolithic community 6,000 years ago. A medieval chapel sits on top of the prehistoric mound and dolmen dominating this tranquil and spiritual site. There's a fantastic Tearoom on site too.

Fascinating
Oct 2021 • Family
A fascinating site that covers thousands of years of belief systems on the island - from the Neolithic paganism to Christianity, and the invading National socialism with all its evil. Short videos at the start provide good context and the team of volunteers in the long house were great to talk to to learn more about their project. A fantastic art project in the bunker, created by local secondary school pupils was incredibly moving. Only four stars as the museum with all the archaeological finds wasn’t open - didn’t detract from our visit as we had delicious cake at the cafe instead!

Moving and fascinating

Can't add much more to what others have said - it's an amazing place. We were lucky enough to meet Neil the archaeologist who told us that the museum part of the site will close very shortly for major refurbishment, to reopen at Easter. To stand inside the chamber itself is wonderful, though you do have to bend down low to get inside!

Lovely site in every way

A museum covering thousands of years of history on the site with incredibly friendly voluntary staff. Videos explaining the site are informative. A well planned site in every way. (A small car park but there’s an overflow site)

Serene
Jul 2021
We loved this place. So serene but with some thought provoking exhibits. Such a great neolithic site. We went on a beautiful serene day - cycled from St Helier - we loved the exhibits, particularly all related to the 'hoard' and pondering the ancient people that had used the site. The cafe was charming and served great cakes.

Wonderful experience
Aug 2021 • Couples
A wonderful experience to see La Hogue Bie and what a special feeling to actually crawl inside it and experience what people experienced some 6000 years ago.
There is an excellent museum on the grounds too with 2 very informative films to watch telling you about the history and excavation of the tomb.
It also gives a lot of information about the geology of the area too and all the amazing ancient hoards of coins, jewellery and neolithic weapons they found.
It's a place to just wander around and take it all in at your leisure. The roundhouse was also interesting to see plus a WW2 memorial - old and new history all ine one place !
There is also a lovely cafe on site doing great cakes ! A perfect day out for everyone and staff are extremely friendly and welcoming too

Before I start my review I just want to say that this is NOT a site for people with mobility issues.
There is a lot to look at at this peaceful site, but don't forget to start with the introductory video in the room next to the ticket office.
The Chapel was full of character and it was amazing to see the wall paintings. There was a presentation being shown on one wall, but to be honest we couldn't really make out what any of the images were and just listened to the commentary.
The chamber itself feels rather spiritual, but be warned there is a very low corridor to shuffle along before it opens out into the higher main chamber.
We found the WWII underground area very informative and very moving.
The museum on site is very interesting and the neolithic house gives a lovely contrast between old and new.
There is free parking and a lovely cafe on site - it is run by the Beresford Street group and is fab.
