I visited Burgh island on Sunday. We walked across to this pub to have a drink and hopefully get out of the wind. The bar was packed, difficult to get in the door. We thought we would try the larger bar. This I was shocked to see was only open for locals.! I walked across to the Hotel which was... More

Lovely walk out over beach as tide was out.....do check before you leave home....stunning views in all directions from top of Burgh Island, most of the island is private but you can walk for about 30 mins on the west coast path before returning down to Pilchard Inn for welcome refreshments. We had drinks and crab or ham baguettes, very fresh... Having spent an hour or so walking around Burgh Island we stopped at The Pilchard as it opened at noon. We were served by a very courteous young man who promptly provided the delicious crab baguette and coffees that we ordered. Being mid week the place was quiet but not empty - there are several tables in the small public... More

I love Burgh Island, it is one of the best places in the world I feel. Having stayed at the hotel, as well as in Bigbury looking out at the hotel, the pilchard inn has always been a regular trip for us but mainly for a quick drink, or sandwich at lunch time. Well this year we decided to book... More

Dating back to the 1300's this is a beautiful pub, with a private area for residents, lovely roaring fire. Absolutely perfect

After reading previous reviews we very nearly did not visit The Pilchard Inn. So very very glad we did. My husband said the service and his pint were lovely. A place everyone should visit, the views and experience was great. Ignore the other reviews.

What a terrible shame that this beautiful quaint little inn is run by a rather rude elderly man who makes you feel as though you are intruding. This place could be a gold mine with the right staff and a new coffee machine and more organisation with the snacks.

What a place... Pilchard Inn, Burgh Island. Dating from 1336, this building was probably used to offer hospitality and lodgings for monastic visitors for the then monastery on Burgh island. This monastery is believed to be largely under the present Hotel. The Pilchard Inn first served the fishermen who lived on the Island and mainland shores, back then, the smugglers... More

After a pleasant walk across the sand to Burgh Island for a light lunch at The Pilchard Inn we found the pub closed for internal upgrade and a new roof. It was entirely our fault that we didn't check first to see if they were open. Apparently they open again on January 20th. The rating above relates to a previous... More

We were staying in Dartmouth in early December and decided to visit the Island which is such a fascinating place. The tide was with us so we walked across the sands with our new puppy and found out that you are not welcome in the Hotel unless you have booked lunch and dressed up for the occasion or you need...
