On a cold winters day this must be the bleakest and most desolate place I have ever visited. The prison museum certainly conveys how awful it must have been to be a former prisoner of war or as now, a convicted criminal of the worst...More

Visited on a chilly winter day and as the visit progressed and we soaked the information on display, it felt increasingly bleak. There is no denying the harshness of the surroundings and the stories of those who went through the places are equally grim. The...More

This place is being run by a couple of retired prison officers who loved to give 'stories' about the prison, total rubbish as a retired prison chaplain, they bored me? The place gives a reasonable idea of what the prison is like, possible better in...More

Small prison museum. Lots of prison memorabilia dating from 1802 to date. They have a very interesting display of lethal weapons made by prisoners from harmless objects. Check out the mobile phone display. These phones have all been confiscated after being smuggled into the prison...More

What a Gem. Nice welcome from the 'screws', lovely fellows. Excellent value for money, something for everybody. It really was an education! Glad we had the opportunity to buy a wee garden ornament made by one of the inmates, a lovely reminder of a very...More

A lovely little museum packed full of fascinating history and artefacts from the Prison's history. We stayed for nearly 2 hours and still didn't see everything. Lots to read (perhaps some larger print signs might help) and also see - things such as little cherry...More

I think your question should be directed to the museum as I like you, was a visitor although I didn't find distance to other end of village a problem. Sorry I can't really help more.
