Enjoyable walk while visiting
Jul 2021
Visited Charmouth beach while passing through, after going to Lyme Regis venture to this location, despite the bad weather this was good for a beach walk.

A beach to understand the power of the sea
Jun 2021
If you want to understand the power of nature, then this is the place to visit - not only to see the towering cliffs, but to see how they crumble and fall. It's also the beach to find fossils, especially in the fallen cliff remains (best at low tide, to sift the beach, but it would help if you were tuned in to what you are looking at and for). The visitor centre has an impressive array of finds, and descriptions of their discovery. Our favourite beach of this part of the coast.

Well worth a visit
May 2021
We visited on an incredibly windy mid May afternoon - local gardens were closed because of it. For us in these conditions, the real plus of this beach was that you could sit in your car and admire the sea view which was right in front of you.

The sea was incredibly rough so great views and in fact the car windscreen was covered in salt spray from the sea. It looks a nice walk along the pebble beach but sadly this wasn't feasible on the afternoon of our visit.

Charming Charmouth
May 2021
This lovely beach is great for fossil-spotting as well as offering superb views across to Portland on fine days. It has two cafes and toilets - what more could you wish for?

Sea glass
Dec 2020 • Couples
I had heard it was a beach for sea glass so we had to stop. Easy parking in December. A blustery day and the tide was high but glad we stopped as we found a Portuguese man of war washed up and some glass.

Get there as tide is going out.
Oct 2020
Plenty of room for Motorhomes in car park on beach and only £3 for the day. Good views whilst having hot chocolate. The bach can get crowded at peak times even with windy conditions. Best time to find fossils is as the tide is ebbing and ideally early in the morning before everyone else gets there. Take about an hour to walk a good length and then the same back whilst you scan the floor for fossils.

Lovely beach walk ...
Oct 2020
Lyme Regis looks tantalisingly close as we set off from Charmouth beach.
This is the most direct route as the coastal path has eroded and is now diverted inland on roads. After the sand beach finished the large boulders slow you down as you pick your way, carefully, avoiding the grey mud from the landslide streams. You also have to dodge the myriad of fossil hunters who are chipping away at each and every stone on the beach (shame).

It takes about 45mins to reach LR sea defences before climbing the concrete
stairs and walking into the town. Don’t forget to check the tides for the
return journey!

Found some fossils
Oct 2020 • Couples
We visited after a storm, apparently a good time for fossil hunting. We spent a couple of hours here and found a small collect of fossils. We visited the cafe after for a hot chocolate and the fossil shop and visitor centre. Lots of families out fossil hunting.
