About
The Centre provides information on fossils, fossil hunting and the local coastal and marine wildlife. Facilities at the centre include interactive computers, hands on displays, marine tanks and a video microscope, all of which can help you to discover more about our stretch of the coastline. You will always find a helpful warden or volunteer who can help you identify your fossil finds. The Centre also has disabled access. Our Jurassic Theatre shows a short film on 'The Jurassic Coast and Finding fossils at Charmouth' (adults £1, children 50p). We also have a shop stocked with books for all levels, including some of our own publications, toys and souvenirs. Throughout the year we run guided fossil hunting walks and rockpooling walks along the local coastline. The Centre also has an extensive education programme. For information about the activities we have to offer to school groups please see our Primary Schools and Secondary Schools sections.

We visited the centre in mid July. With just a donation for entry it's an absolute jem. The staff are very helpful and answer your fossil find questions eagerly. Lots of interesting displays and information on the local area.Well worth a visit.

Interesting
Jul 2021
For a free-to-enter establishment, this was interesting. It is not a huge museum, but it does have a fascinating array of fossils and the explanations are goo and easy to follow. I would certainly recommend a 20 minute visit if you happen to be in the immediate vicinity.

Disappointed.

The usual pictures and examples of fossils with script to tell the story. A small area and of course you have the shop . There is a theatre, but closed due to covid .

Tells the fossil story well
Jun 2021
An excellent display of local fossils, with stories of how they were found and well-presented and accessible for all ages. If you are visiting Charmouth beach do not miss it.

Fascinating fossils and exhibits
May 2021 • Couples
A smallish upstairs museum, packed with fossils, dinosaurs, brightly coloured explanatory notices, plus a shop with some interesting stock. Perfect for children or fossil-enthusiasts. Friendly staff. The video viewing was unavailable due to Covid but it was still a very enjoyable experience.

I will never stop coming to this beach!!
As a geology student it amazes me at how many fossils and rocks you can see in one place. The beach is so big and everyone is so spaced out.
We found some beautiful specimens last week to add to my collection.
If you’re interested in fossils this is the place to be!
Living in the West Midlands it takes about 3 hours to reach this beach but it is worth it every single time. I love it!

Great fossil finding experience
Apr 2021 • Family
Had a brilliant couple of hours with Anna today. She was extremely knowledgeable, great with the kids and really enthusiastic and encouraging. We found lots and our boys (4, 8 & 10) loved it.
