The Centre provides information on fossils, fossil hunting and the local coastal and marine wildlife. Facilities at the centre include interactive computers, hands on displays, marine tanks and a video microscope, all of which can help you to discover more about our stretch of the coastline. You will always find a helpful warden or volunteer who can help you identify your fossil finds. The Centre also has disabled access. Our Jurassic Theatre shows a short film on 'The Jurassic Coast and Finding fossils at Charmouth' (adults £1, children 50p). We also have a shop stocked with books for all levels, including some of our own publications, toys and souvenirs. Throughout the year we run guided fossil hunting walks and rockpooling walks along the local coastline. The Centre also has an extensive education programme. For information about the activities we have to offer to school groups please see our Primary Schools and Secondary Schools sections.

Spent a lovely Saturday afternoon fossil hunting at Charmouth. Despite the wind it was very enjoyable. The Heritage Centre was very good and the staff we're very friendly. I bought a beautiful necklace for Mother's Day. There were lots of information and things to do for the kids and there was a lovely cafe on the ground floor. The shop... More

We booked the Fossil Walk online. The leader was very knowledgeable and excellent with the children who attended - encouraging and enthusing them. Extremely good value

There is a really enthusiastic and quite joyful tone to this lovely little fossil museum. Jolly interesting too. Made a good change from walks up and down the coastal cliffs nearby and so interesting to see the fossils which people have found literally on the very beach outside. Well worth and visit, and do donate via the mouth of the... More

We stopped in here to book a tour of the beach with a resident palaeontologist. We had to wait 24 hours as the tours are popular (probably helped by the fact that they are free). Our guides were knowledgeable, patient and great with kids - even the screaming Ines that wouldn't shut up! Our guide gave us an informative and... More

We booked online onto a fossil hunting trip at half term- a family of 5- £28 for a great 2hrs with friendly and very knowledgeable staff. I cannot recommend this enough- we found all sorts of (tiny!) fossils and our 3 sons thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I understand schools groups come for educational visits regularly during term time- they are lucky... More

We visited the heritage coast centre on a very wet and windy day in February, but although admission is free, there was not a lot to see. Possibly because the "tourist season" had not started, many of the exhibits were undergoing refurbishment, particularly the marine tanks. There were plenty of helpful staff present, but all in all, everything looked tired.... More

This is an unassuming place but worth the visit! We had a wonderful afternoon. Tours are different every day due to the timing of the low tide and reservations are a must. The Fossil tour starts with a 20 minute lecture-- it's funny and easily accessible for kids and adults. We all found fossils and had a grand time searching.
