A clan chief's treasure house, generations of Clan Brodie have lived and died within Brodie Castle. On the tour can be seen a letter from Robert the Bruce, the coronation robe worn by Queen Adelaide in 1831, antique furniture and ceramics and an extensive art collection, including three works by the Scottish Colourists. This 16th-century castle is a slice of Scottish history not to be missed.

There's plenty to discover outside the castle too. The 71 hectare estate has landscaped gardens, a large pond, a walled garden, a woodland walk, an adventure playground and a nature trail with observation hides for watching wildlife.

As members of the National trust this castle was highlighted as a must see treasure and was not disappointed. With membership entry is free. Tours are guided and take about 1hr to complete. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and kept our teenagers interested as we walk through 3 floors of the castle. Be prepared for a busy tea room... More

Thanks for reviewing. Sorry you didn't get the chance to sample the home baked cakes, we do hope to extend the tearoom in the future. Glad you and your family enjoyed the tour, lots of treasures here for all to appreciate. More

We managed to arrive just as a tour began and only 6 of us on it. The tour guide Eleanor was very knowledgeable and funny, not like the usual stuffy guides at historic houses. The castle is beautifully presented and there's so much to see, we had lost 3 hours before we knew it! The tearoom was small and very... More

Thanks for the excellent review, delighted to hear you enjoyed both the tour and the lunch. We can't always promise Eleanor will be available but there are lots of other great guides with great personalities! More

Every other castle or home open to the public requires you to stay behind ropes just inside door way. Not Brodie Castle. We could walk around every room and look at titles and dates of books, look at paintings up close (there are over 300). And since we are staying with friends of mine, and Mhairi works there, we had... More

Thanks for your review. We try to keep the tours so that the experience is more like visiting Brodie as a home, rather than being restricted by ropes. Though photos are not currently allowed inside, there are lots of spots outdoors for excellent photos. Good to know you enjoyed it. More

This was disappointing. Main problems: Staff were not very welcoming e.g. a clipboard-wielding guide meeting us before we even entered! The castle is FREEZING so take your jackets from the car! Despite this, we did not get sufficient time to observe the wonderful art and the lighting was poor (yes, perhaps dimmed lighting is necessary for the paintings but I... More

We're at a loss to know when you were approached by anyone with a clipboard, unless you visited last year when we did have a survey taking place. The castle has many valuable antiques, temperatures suit the furniture conservation requirements. Historic buildings and furniture do need to be kept cooler than we are used to nowadays. Not only the watercolours... More

Really loved this castle, lots of interesting paintings, artefacts and much more. If visiting this castle then join a tour because it really brings the history alive.

Took our grandkids here for the day. Great fun and a great tour of the castle from our guide Margaret. We all loved it and a nice playground for the kids when we came out.

Visited with family. The castle from the outside is very pretty but nothing outstanding or unusual compared to others of the same type. You can only walk around inside as part of a guided tour whereas I prefer to take my own time. There's also a children's play area along with toilets and a gift shop. You can also visit... More

The tour is great given by really kowledgable guides, but the horror story is in the shop at the end. There aren't any prices on anything, so after an hour tour, then refreshments, I was aghast to find that a can of coke would cost me £1.95 and a shortbread biscuit £3.95 each!!!! The lady offered to refund me if... More

Your review is unfair as the prices you quote are not the prices we charge, in fact much higher than our prices. All goods in the shop are either priced individually or, for food and drink, are shown on price lists beside the items. Two cans of coke and 2 shortbread can be bought for £4.10. The shop servery supplies... More

Great day out had by all! The lady at reception was very polite and informative and our tour guy tony had a vast knowledge about the castle and answered any question that my daughter put to him. My daughter enjoyed the adventure playground and we had great fun climbing and going on the zip slide. Overall was very impressed with... More

Lovely well kept grounds and nice walks around the area. Great toilet facilities within the grounds too. Fab play area for kids. The castle itself is lovely.

Thanks for your review. We welcome walkers within the grounds - always something to see in the shrubbery or while walking round the pond. Our wonderful play area is a favourite with families. Not long until we open the castle again on 1 April. More
